Salary: £90,440 - £106,400
Location: Edinburgh
Hours: Full-time  
Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our Edinburgh Office.

What you’ll do  

As Lead Software Engineer you'll be tasked with a variety of responsibilities that are crucial to our success. This is a leadership level role and will blend both technical expertise with a great passion for coaching and developing people, including advocating team wellbeing. 

  • Lead and mentor a multi-skilled team to deliver high-quality, innovative solutions to support business goals. 

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle to design, build and deliver maintainable, testable, observable and resilient software systems.

  • Collaborate with feature teams and third parties to identify and implement creative solutions that align with business objectives. 

  • Use agile tools, methodologies and data to monitor progress, addressing any issues promptly to ensure timely delivery. Identify and mitigate risks to ensure successful implementations to live. 

  • Develop and document processes to improve engineering efficiency and service quality. 

  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives, fostering an environment of learning and growth within the team. 

  • Management of Third Party Suppliers to ensure solutions are performant, secure and resilient, and meet bank objectives and client needs. 

  • Monitor and analyse service performance metrics to continually improve our offerings. 

  • Accept 24*7 accountability and ownership to support availability, currency and performance. 

  • Ensure that all engineering activities align with industry standards and regulations. 

What you’ll need  

  • Proven experience in a leadership role within engineering, with a track record of mentoring and developing talent. 

  • Strong commercial experience in the full software development lifecycle

  • Strong experience of Java and microservice frameworks such as Springboot.

  • Strong experience of RESTful APIs and web services.

  • Experience of agile development practices, DevOps pipelines, continuous integration / deployment, test automation and the E2E software development lifecycle. 

  • Strong communication skills, dynamic and adaptable, with the ability to facilitate efficient and effective decision-making. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with a diverse range of collaborators. 

  • Experience of managing Third Party Suppliers in the context of providing software solutions, including the configuration and testing of such products.
