As an apprentice, you’ll be immersed in a hands-on learning environment, acquiring new skills while collaborating with our knowledgeable staff.

What You’ll Do at Work
 

  • You will master the art of designing, commissioning, and executing advanced building management control solutions, specifically for Heating, Ventilating & Air Conditioning systems (HVAC).

  • You will become well-versed and proficient in the range of Johnson Controls manufactured products and software.

  • Understand Mechanical & Electrical systems thoroughly, analyse crucial technical documents, and from a static state, commission the controls system and designated plant interfaces, ensuring that the control system and plant operate seamlessly in line with project specifications.

  • While this role primarily focuses on large-scale buildings, you will also gain enriching exposure to diverse projects, including hospitals and government facilities.

  • With the full support of our qualified BMS engineers, you will learn to analyse essential technical documents and ensure the plant's control system operates effectively, adhering to project specifications.

  • As you gain experience, exciting opportunities will arise to diagnose and solve technical challenges in both software and hardware, with the chance to advise customers on energy efficiencies using Johnson Controls energy management software.

  • As you enhance your expertise in both software and hardware, even more opportunities will unfold.

  • You will be empowered to provide customers with advice on energy efficiencies, utilizing Johnson Controls’ energy management software.

On-the-Job Work Experience:

You’ll spend significant time applying the skills learned at college, providing a hands-on learning experience as you advance through your apprenticeship.
 

Collaboration with Qualified Engineers:

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll work alongside qualified Johnson Controls Engineers and Technicians who will serve as mentors, guiding your skill development. This collaborative setting ensures you receive the support and insights necessary to thrive in your role.
 

Where You’ll Work
You will work around the central band of Scotland however they may be requirements to cover the rest of Scotland and further afield depending on customer requirements.

Your Training Course

Level 6 Engineering - installation and commissioning

Your Training Plan
You will enrol in a level 6 Engineering - installation and commissioning with NCLAN. You will attend your college requirments on day release during work hours.

Requirements / Essential Qualifications

  • National Grade 5 in English essential.

  • National Grade 5 in Maths essential. 

  • Full Driving Licence essential.

Desired qualifications

  • National Level 5 or equivalent IT (Grade 5) desirable

Other Requirements
This thrilling opportunity is field-based, meaning that you will work alongside our highly skilled engineers, traveling between our clients’ sites each day. Our work may also require heavy lifting and working from heights.

Upon completion of this apprenticeship there are many internal opportunities within the company

Many of our previous apprentices have become lead engineers and take control of their own team and projects

Salary- £15,915

What’s Next? 

Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will participate in a practical assessment, meet the team, and have an interview. 

Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
