JOB TITLE: Assistant Social Media Manager

SALARY: £39,800 - £44,250

LOCATION: Edinburgh, Leeds, Halifax, Bristol or Birmingham

HOURS: Full-time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

We’re looking for an Assistant Social Media Manager to join our future-focused Group Corporate Affairs (GCA) Social Media team. It’s a great time to join us! Over the past year, we’ve added TikTok and YouTube to our channel mix. We’re also adapting our strategy to focus more on search-led content and the ways people find brands, learn, and engage online.

You’ll be joining an expert team of analysts, strategists, and content creators - and you’ll play a pivotal role in organising, planning, and enabling best-in-class social content that reflects real-time insights, cultural moments, and long-term strategic priorities. Our ideal candidate is highly organised, imaginative, inquisitive, and confident operating in a fast paced environment. An interest in SEO, search behaviours, and the use of AI tools is essential, along with a passion for content systems, planning, and social-first storytelling.

Key Responsibilities

Own the content calendar: Lead and maintain the central social media calendar across all GCA channels (LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and emerging spaces), ensuring alignment to strategy, priorities, and opportunities.

Enable planning for the future: Collaborate with strategists and analysts to turn insights into actionable plans. Identify moments, topics, and trends to respond to, helping the team stay ahead.

Channel coordination: Ensure planned activity across platforms is coherent, well-timed, and meets audience needs across differing business areas and themes.

Shoot organisation: Lead the logistics, scheduling, and operational delivery of content shoots - including briefs, suppliers, talent, creators, and locations.

Search-led content development: Support the team with SEO-driven planning, including keyword-informed briefs, optimisation recommendations, and insight gathering.

AI-enabled workflows: Apply AI tools (including Copilot) to streamline workflows, enhance planning, improve briefing, and support content production.

Creator management support: Help organise and coordinate work with our internal creator collective, ensuring they have briefs, materials, and timelines required for high-quality delivery.

Quality control & consistency: Maintain oversight of content outputs, ensuring we meet our cadence goals across channels as well as maintaining the balance of themes and formats.

Reactive planning: Help coordinate rapid responses to cultural moments, breaking insights, and reputation opportunities, working closely with the wider Corporate Affairs team.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Run the day-to-day planning rhythm for the social team, ensuring clarity on priorities and deliverables.

  • Lead weekly and monthly content planning sessions, sharing insights, upcoming moments, and opportunities.

  • Maintain a meticulously organised content pipeline and ensure smooth coordination between creators, planners, and data specialists.

  • You'll support us in the pre-production for our varied content shoots - from logistics to schedules, shot lists, talent coordination, and approvals.

  • Keep detailed track of assets, timelines, and publishing windows across multiple platforms.

  • Monitor cultural, industry, and platform trends, ensuring the team is ready to act on moments with high reputational value.

  • Support the integration of search behaviours into content planning, especially for YouTube and TikTok.

  • Help optimise content ideas, copy, and formats for discoverability.

  • Use intelligent solutions to streamline content processes, briefs, and planning.

  • Champion experimentation and smarter ways of working across the team.

What we’re looking for

  • Experience working in social media, digital content, or editorial planning - ideally within a large or complex organisation.

  • Strong organisational skills, with experience handling content calendars, workflows, or production schedules.

  • A strong interest in search-led content, SEO behaviours, and how people discover brand information online.

  • Familiarity with platforms including TikTok, YouTube, Instagram, and LinkedIn - and what great content looks like on each.

  • Experience organising content shoots, working with creators, or supporting production teams.

  • AI literacy, especially in using tools to improve planning, briefs, and outputs.

  • Creative, curious, and insight-driven, with an eye for content opportunities.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Experience with corporate brands, reputation management, or purpose-led content is desirable but not essential.
