About this role

Your team

Technology underpins everything we do at BlackRock, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a strategic priority across Aladdin and our investment, client, and operational platforms. Within Aladdin Platform Engineering, our team builds and operates the foundational infrastructure and platform services that enable machine learning, large language models, and emerging AI capabilities to run securely, reliably, and at enterprise scale.

We work across AI Engineering, Data Science, Platform Engineering, Security, Risk, and Product to build resilient, cloud-native platforms for a highly regulated environment. This role offers the opportunity to shape the engineering foundations that enable AI capabilities across Aladdin.

Your role and impact

As an AI Infrastructure Engineer, you will design, build, and operate the foundational platforms that support AI workloads throughout their lifecycle, from development and experimentation through training, evaluation, deployment, and inference.

You will help create scalable, reliable production environments while embedding security, governance, observability, automation, and operational resilience into the platform. You will contribute to architectural decisions and technical standards as AI capabilities and infrastructure continue to evolve across Aladdin.

Your responsibilities

In every role at BlackRock, you'll be expected to apply sound judgement and critical thinking to solve complex problems, adapt as the business evolves, and combine the curiosity to explore new approaches and technologies with the rigor to challenge the results. The scope of this role also includes the following responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate scalable, reliable, and secure cloud-native infrastructure supporting AI model development, training, evaluation, deployment, and inference across public cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Partner with AI Engineering, Data Science, Platform Engineering, and Product teams to improve developer experience, platform performance, and operational stability while contributing to AI platform architecture and technical standards.
  • Enable production deployment of machine learning models and large language models within governed enterprise environments, integrating identity, access controls, data protection, security, and risk requirements.
  • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation to enable repeatable, consistent, and auditable platform provisioning and configuration.
  • Build and operate observability, monitoring, and alerting capabilities that provide visibility into AI platform availability, performance, reliability, capacity, and cost.
  • Participate in operational support and on-call rotations for critical platforms, contributing to incident response and resilient production services.
  • Evaluate emerging AI infrastructure technologies and engineering approaches, applying capabilities appropriate to BlackRock’s enterprise environment.

Your experience
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, systems engineering, or a closely related discipline, including designing and operating services across major public cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Experience supporting AI and machine learning platforms across the development and production lifecycle, including training, fine-tuning, experimentation, validation, model deployment and serving, lifecycle management, observability, resilience, disaster recovery, and end-to-end Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, cloud infrastructure provisioning, and automation, supported by programming or scripting capability.
  • Experience building and operating enterprise-grade containerized platforms that support declarative infrastructure and horizontal scaling, with a strong understanding of reliability, scalability, observability, and production engineering practices.
  • Familiarity with graphics processing unit (GPU) or other accelerator-based AI infrastructure, multicloud architectures, and enterprise governance requirements.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, security, risk, data, and product teams and communicate complex technical concepts clearly. Experience in financial services or another highly regulated environment is beneficial.

Our benefits

To help you stay energized, engaged and inspired, we offer a wide range of employee benefits including: retirement investment and tools designed to help you in building a sound financial future; access to education reimbursement; comprehensive resources to support your physical health and emotional well-being; family support programs; and Flexible Time Off (FTO) so you can relax, recharge and be there for the people you care about.

Our hybrid work model

BlackRock’s hybrid work model is designed to enable a culture of collaboration and apprenticeship that enriches the experience of our employees, while supporting flexibility for all. Employees are currently required to work at least 4 days in the office per week, with the flexibility to work from home 1 day a week. Some business groups may require more time in the office due to their roles and responsibilities. We remain focused on increasing the impactful moments that arise when we work together in person – aligned with our commitment to performance and innovation. As a new joiner, you can count on this hybrid model to accelerate your learning and onboarding experience here at BlackRock.

Guidance on AI use for candidates

We encourage candidates to use AI thoughtfully to learn, prepare, and work more effectively; but during our interview process, we want to focus on getting to know you through your own experiences, thinking, and judgment. To support you, we’ve provided guidance on when and how to use AI during our hiring process so you can approach each step with confidence and showcase your best self.
