The role:

The Business Development Finance Manager is a role which has arisen as a result of the growth strategy for the M&G Life business, aiming to fulfil the needs of retail and institutional customers, including leveraging the power of our unique With Profits fund. Covering multiple products across the Corporate Risk solution, International solution and Individual Life and Pensions markets including annuities and PruFund propositions.

Reporting to the Head of Business Change, this is a key role for a Finance expert in delivering Finance’s capabilities to support the growth strategy. Developing end-to-end finance solutions covering new Finance processes, reporting and operations and supporting delivery of strategic capability developments relevant to the Financial Control and Finance Operations CoEs.

Key Work Level Accountabilities:   

  • Accountable for leading, managing and motivating others in the design and delivery of innovative solutions to implement new propositions / products in an efficient, commercial and controlled manner.
  • Applies judgement to deliver outcomes, evaluating a range of potential solutions, considering the impact for customers, cost, and risk.
  • Develop a team which challenges the status quo, embraces change, strives to make continuous incremental improvements and is responsive to future business requirements.
  • Identifies and anticipates the need for change to continuously improve quality and efficiency of output.
  • Manages resources, conflicts and risks using expert judgment, knowledge, and experience.
  • Where Finance solutions related to growth of the Life business are tactical in nature, support the running of these solutions as BAU prior to strategic scalable solutions being delivered and handed to the Finance Operations and Reporting Production teams to run.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customers outcomes and a reduction in M&G plc’s operational risk.

Key responsibilities for this role:

  • Play a key role in managing and providing Finance Subject Matter Expert (SME) input to delivering end-to-end Finance solutions that support the growth of the Life business and strategic capability developments pertinent to the Financial Control and Finance Operations CoEs.
  • Working with the wider Finance teams and Change team to ensure reporting capabilities for new propositions are in place in a  timely and controlled manner.
  • Provide the project team with SME leadership, direction, and confidence that the project delivers the required benefits and outcomes within the specified tolerances of time, cost, quality, scope, benefit, and risk.
  • Complete handover of the changes to BAU and business benefits realisation activities to close off projects.
  • Motivate the team to ensure a high standard of output, focused on addressing requirements and delivery by providing ongoing guidance, mentoring, or coaching.

  • Excellent verbal and written communicator across all levels of the organisation and able to facilitate medium to large sized workshops and meetings with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to motivate, influence and constructively challenge where appropriate.
  • Adept at building and maintaining strong relationships across the business and with external parties.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple activities, resources, priorities, and deliverables to tight deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to articulate complex ideas / concepts to stakeholders (joining business acumen and finance knowledge) and demonstrate an understanding of the commercial implications of decisions.
  • Highly analytical and skilled problem solver that has the ability to quickly understand and adopt new and complex concepts and anticipate, prioritise and resolve issues and determine solutions.
  • Well-developed people skills, leading by example and exercising good judgment and decision-making skills.
  • In depth understanding of either accounting or actuarial Financial Reporting processes.
  • Experience of collaborating with offshore teams / third parties.
  • Experience of using different technologies to develop and improve processes.
  • Experience of managing a finance team of a large, complex financial services / insurance business is preferable.
  • Ability to lead the BAU execution of tactical Finance solutions prior to strategic scalable solutions being implemented and handed to the Finance Operations and Reporting Production teams to run.
  • An awareness and understanding of the evolving regulatory framework in which M&G plc operates.
