About NumeralHQ

Numeral is building the automation backbone for internet commerce — starting with the painful world of sales tax compliance. We handle everything from registration to remittance, delivering a white-glove service so e-commerce businesses can stay laser-focused on what they do best: growing their products, customers, and teams.

We’re one of the fastest-growing companies from Y Combinator’s W23 batch, backed by top-tier investors including Benchmark Capital. Our team has deep roots from the early days at Stripe, Airbnb, Notion, and other breakout companies — and now we’re bringing that same level of craft, speed, and ambition to a space that’s long overdue for reinvention.

Numeral is small but mighty. Growth is already borderline unmanageable — which means every hire we make now will directly shape the trajectory of the company. If you’re excited about joining as an early team member and want the kind of ownership that defines careers, we want to meet you.

Mission

Running an online business today means wearing a thousand hats — most of them not the reason founders started their company. Our mission is to eliminate the administrative and accounting burdens that distract businesses from doing what they love.

We’ve already helped hundreds of merchants avoid the headache of building giant finance teams just to manage tax compliance. Tomorrow, we’re scaling that impact even further: building the automation layer that lets internet businesses stay nimble, compliant, and future-proof.

About the role:

As Business Operations Manager, International Operations, you’ll play a foundational role in launching and scaling Numeral’s product in global markets. From owning the development and execution of tax workflows across VAT, GST, and indirect tax systems including research and registration to process design and automation.

You’ll partner with Product, Engineering, and GTM teams to launch new countries, support compliance at scale, and continuously improve systems that blend human operations with AI-powered workflows.

This is a high impact role with the opportunity to directly shape our international expansion strategy and build repeatable playbooks that will power the next stage of Numeral’s growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Launch our product in new countries: Own end-to-end delivery of international launches—from operational research and tooling to stakeholder coordination and SOP development.

  • Design scalable tax workflows: Build repeatable, automation-friendly processes for VAT/GST compliance using a combination of RPA tools, SQL, and AI agents.

  • Own rollouts from 0–1: Pilot new operational systems, document workflows, train the team, and scale across regions.

  • Improve efficiency & automation: Identify bottlenecks, reduce manual execution time, and implement automation and tooling to increase leverage.

  • Triage edge cases and escalations: Support customer and internal teams by solving complex international operations issues, then build systems to prevent them in the future.

  • Document and scale knowledge: Create internal SOPs and operational guides to ensure the team can scale with quality and consistency.

  • Partner across teams: Collaborate with Product, Sales, and Customer Experience to enable seamless rollouts and drive go-to-market success in each region.

Qualifications:
  • 5+ years in operations at a fintech, SaaS, or compliance-focused startup

  • 2+ years of remote work in globally distributed teams

  • Proven experience building structured processes in ambiguous, early-stage environments

  • Familiarity with process automation tools (Google Sheets, AppScript, RPA frameworks)

  • Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills

Bonus Points For:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a tax-adjacent field

  • Prior experience in indirect tax (VAT/GST) product or compliance operations

  • SQL proficiency and comfort working with relational databases

  • Experience implementing AI tools or automation agents into operational workflows

  • Exposure to Salesforce and state/international tax portals

Why Join Us?
  • Be a core builder in an ambitious, globally minded startup.

  • Learn hands-on how to scale international compliance systems.

  • Work across functions and with leadership early in your career.

  • Make a visible impact immediately through enablement and operational design.

  • Enjoy a flexible, remote-first culture with strong mentorship and ownership opportunities
