McCain Foods (Canada) has an opening for a Chief Power Engineer, Grand Falls, NB.
About the role:
Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the successful applicant will assume duties and responsibilities as provided under the Power Engineers Act. In addition, this person will participate in key factory activities.

Responsibilities:

  • With support from other leaders, ensure a safe and healthy work environment. Ensure all safety policies and procedures are followed. Actively participate in health & safety initiatives. Take a leading role in safety optimization in the drive towards zero incidents. Perform regular safety talks and safety interactions.
  • Manage overall Operation and maintenance of
    • 2nd Class powerhouse
    • ammonia refrigeration systems
    • water systems (hot and cold)
    • compressed air systems
    • HVAC systems (including natural gas and glycol systems)
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager to ensure compliance with the New Brunswick Department of Environment and Local Government (NBDELG) Air Quality Approval to Operate and Water Quality Approval to Operate.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager on strategic capital planning and work closely with Capital Project Engineers to help supervise capital project activities relating to Utilities.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Manager and Maintenance Leadership to achieve production goals and plant objectives. Provide direction and support tradespeople and contractors in maintaining the reliability of utilities systems.
  • Drive and support Continuous Improvement ideas along with problem solving & troubleshooting.
  • Coach and mentor plant associates on change-management. Drive and sustain positive business practices and tool applications on the shop floor.
  • Foster the McCain MDI culture for Utilities; ensure inspections are completed, Centerline deviations are reported and addressed, huddle meetings start on time and operators participate actively. Attend the daily MDI meetings.
  • Administrative functions of this supervisory role, include
    • time keeping, vacation planning, take call-ins and find replacements, prepare shift schedules,
    • oversee departmental training for safety, mobile equipment, MDI, e-learnings and all other core and additional training,
    • performance appraisals, coaching, and progressive discipline as required.
  • Perform investigations as required for safety incidents, equipment failure, and other as needed.
  • Support and drive interdepartmental initiatives for Safety, Quality, Production, Costing, Human Resources & Maintenance.
  • Work closely with the shift Manager and the other Production Supervisors to achieve production goals and KPIs efficiently. Win with customers and consumers by ensuring all product quality specifications are being followed and adhered to, with an emphasis on minimizing variance.
  • Ensure HACCP guidelines, rules and regulations are being followed throughout the food production process, including the completion of required documents.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Engineering Manager.


Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid 2nd Class Power Engineer License in compliance with the province of New Brunswick
  • Experience with steam, ammonia refrigeration, HVAC, and compressed air systems is necessary
  • Experience with SAP (maintenance management software) is necessary
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office Suite)
  • Experience leading, coaching, and influencing others
  • Experience resolving conflict and issues
  • Experience managing performance and work quality of direct reports
  • Ability to motivate yourself and others to achieve personal and departmental objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and successfully lead projects and work teams
  • Assertive, decisive and results-driven
  • Sound fact-based decision making and problem-solving skills with a focus on delivering results and resolving day-to-day operational challenges. Can make sound judgements and decisions when dealing with complex issues in high pressure situations
