Role Overview:
The Chief Engineer will play a critical role in leading the engineering efforts for a large-scale Supply Chain technology transformation in the Oil and Gas industry.
This position is a key part of the project leadership team, ensuring technical assurance, solution delivery, and engineering governance. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for end-to-end engineering execution, from project start-up to operations and closeout, including on-contract growth opportunities.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across the project.
- Ensure technical assurance and solution delivery within quality, cost, and schedule constraints.
- Typically negotiates and compromises to convince internal and external parties to accept concepts, practices and approaches of the area.
- Define and manage engineering practices, principles, processes, and resources to align with contracted standards and corporate governance.
- Impacts functional strategy by developing new solutions, processes, standards or operational plans that position Leidos competitively in the marketplace.
- Identify the skills and staff requirements needed to execute the engineering solution.
- Oversee the effectiveness of engineering activities across the project lifecycle.
- Resolves highly complex and multi-dimensional problems requiring consideration of variables that impact multiple aspects of the project.
- Lead engagement with executive stakeholders, communicating design concepts, technical strategies, and project impact. Provides technical advice/input that impact strategic client outputs and Leidos business results.
- Direct and coordinate engineering teams to ensure successful system delivery and acceptance. Mentor and coach other technical staff.
- Requires highest knowledge and mastery of highly advanced technologies, scientific principles, theories and concepts. Viewed as a subject matter expert and within the field by peers within and outside the organisation.
Skills Required:
- Substantial prior relevant experience with Masters or Doctorate. May possess a Doctorate in technical domain
- Chartered Engineer desirable
- Experience in large scale technology enabled process transformations
- Experience of ERP or Supply chain technologies. E.g. Oracle Fusion, SAP, MS Dynamics, Infor, IBM Sterling OMS, Blue Yonder, Dispatcher, Kinaxis, Coupa
- Knowledge of supply chain process, procedures and technology: Order capture, inventory management, Warehousing, Order management and planning; Transport Management
- Technology delivery for complex system of system architectures
- Integration technologies: Software AG, Mulesoft IBM Cloud Pak for Integration, APIs
- Cyber Security
Desirable Skills:
- Agile Scrum Development – Experience working in agile teams and applying Scrum methodologies.
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) – Leveraging AI-driven methodologies for data analysis and decision-making.
- Atlassian JIRA – Managing project tasks using JIRA for Agile development tracking.
- C++ Programming Language: Writing and debugging C++ code to develop solutions.
- Cloud Computing – Understanding cloud architecture, security controls, and risk mitigation.
- Continuous Integration – Managing and contributing to automated build and test processes.
- Docker (Software): Designing and managing container applications in the Docker ecosystem.
- Embedded Systems: An embedded system is a combination of computer hardware and software designed for a specific function.
- Java: Using the Java programming language to create scalable code and software that support organizational projects.
- Jenkins (Software): Leveraging the Jenkins automation platform to streamline software development and support continuous integration and delivery efforts.
- Linux: Using an understanding of Linux operating systems to support various organizational needs, including by updating software and applications, ensuring efficiency, and monitoring system performance.
- Machine Learning: Programming and using artificial intelligence models to conduct predictive statistical analyses.
- Software Design: Conceptualizing and developing plans for implementing software solutions.
- Software Development: Designing computer programs or applications to solve problems or automate processes.
- Software Testing: Executing software to find any defects or bugs and validate it behaves as expected.
- Systems Integration: Connecting and integrating disparate software, hardware, or other systems into a single unified system.
- Technical Leadership – Leading and mentoring engineering teams on large-scale technology transformations.
- Stakeholder Communication – Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership.

Pay Range:Pay Range £96,800.00 - £151,633.75The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary.
