About this role

Client Contracting Associate

About BlackRock

As the largest investment manager in the world with around $14 trillion in assets under management,

BlackRock’s purpose is to help more and more people experience financial well-being.

As a fiduciary to investors and a leading provider of financial technology, clients turn to BlackRock for the solutions they need when planning for their most important goals.

At BlackRock, you will be part of a culture that values collaboration, performance, innovation, ownership and long-term thinking. You will be encouraged to learn, contribute and develop your career in a team that works across disciplines, clients and regions.

About the role

  • As a Client Contracting Associate you will draft, negotiate, and deliver the legal agreements that underpin how we partner with investment clients across EMEA and beyond. You will work across a diverse range of contracts and client types, gaining exposure to complex, high-value relationships early in your career.
  • This role is ideal for someone who enjoys legal drafting, commercial problem-solving, and collaborating with others. You do not need to know every aspect of asset management on day one— what matters is your curiosity, judgment, and ability to balance client needs, internal requirements, and legal risk.
  • You will be actively involved in shaping commercial outcomes, solving client challenges, and influencing how contracting is delivered.
  • This is a high-impact, commercially focused role at the center of BlackRock’s client relationships.

What makes this a strong opportunity

  • This is a role where you can build deep expertise within a sophisticated financial services environment
  • You will be close to the commercial decisions that shape client relationships, while also developing strong legal and operational judgment. You will see how a global asset manager works across all facets of the business to deliver for our clients.
  • You will be part of actively improving how contracting is delivered — using better workflow tools, clearer playbooks, stronger data and AI-enabled capabilities to make the process faster, more consistent and easier for clients and colleagues.
  • If you enjoy technical detail, practical problem-solving and working with people, this is a role where you can develop quickly and make a visible contribution.

Who we are looking for

  • We are looking for candidates who bring strong drafting instincts, commercial curiosity, and a collaborative mindset.
  • You may be:
  • a newly qualified or early-career lawyer looking for a broader commercial role;
  • a contracts professional with a legal qualification as a minimum (i.e. Law Degree) who has worked with sophisticated agreements; or
  • someone with other legal experience from private practice, in-house legal or legal operations;
  • You may have experience in asset management, banking, insurance, pensions, funds, investment platforms or another regulated environment - this experience is preferred, but not essential
  • We value diverse backgrounds - if you have the core capabilities and a strong desire to learn, we encourage you to apply.

What will help you succeed

  • The strongest candidates will be able to show:
  • strong legal or contractual drafting skills;
  • good judgment and attention to detail;
  • confidence in managing competing priorities within a busy environment;
  • an ability to explain complex points clearly and practically;
  • curiosity about financial services, investment management and client delivery;
  • a collaborative approach and willingness to build relationships across teams;
  • ownership — following issues through to resolution;
  • openness to feedback and a desire to keep improving;
  • an interest in technology, process improvement and the use of AI in legal and contracting work.

What you will do

You will be supported as you build your knowledge, but you will quickly take ownership of your own contracting caseload.

  • Your responsibilities will include:
  • drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of client agreements and related documents
  • managing contract matters from initial instruction through internal review, client negotiation and execution;
  • working directly in partnership with internal stakeholders across a wide variety of teams, including Relationship Management, Client Service, Legal & Compliance, Implementation, Portfolio Management and other investment teams;
  • identifying legal, commercial, operational risks early and driving practical solutions;
  • supporting clients and internal partners in understanding what is needed, why it matters, and what the next steps are;
  • supporting the continued development of playbooks, FAQs, precedent databases and knowledge resources;
  • using BlackRock’s contracting workflow and document-management platforms to manage work transparently and in line with process expectations;
  • contributing ideas to improve how the team works, including how we use technology, data and AI to drive efficiencies and continue to innovate

What you will learn

This role offers broad and valuable experience for those in the early-to-mid stages of a legal or commercial contracts career.

  • You will develop:
  • strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • a practical understanding of a variety of investment management agreements and client mandates;
  • experience balancing commercial objectives, regulatory expectations, fiduciary duty and operational risk;
  • confidence working with senior stakeholders across multiple functions
  • judgment in handling challenges, competing priorities and complex client requirements;
  • experience using technology and AI tools to support modern contract management.

If you are looking for a role where you can develop quickly, contribute meaningfully, and build a career at the intersection of law, commercial execution, and client delivery, we would love to hear from you.
