The Role
Envitia is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our growing Security & Intelligence Consulting team.
You'll help design and build modern data platforms that enable organisations across Defence, Government and National Security to make faster, better-informed decisions from complex and diverse datasets.
Working alongside data scientists, software engineers, architects and consultants, you'll create scalable cloud-native data solutions that support advanced analytics, AI/ML capabilities and operational intelligence systems.
This is an opportunity to work on technically challenging projects where you'll influence architecture, engineering approaches and the delivery of high-impact data capabilities.
Due to the nature of our work, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a high level of security clearance. Once cleared, they will be expected to work on-site at client locations in either London, Cheltenham, or Manchester for approximately 3-4 days per week. Whilst your clearance is going through, you will work on programmes across our wider defence and central government portfolio.
What You'll Be Doing
- Designing and developing modern data platforms and pipelines
- Building scalable batch and streaming data solutions
- Creating data lakes and cloud-native data architectures
- Ingesting, transforming and integrating data from multiple sources
- Supporting analytics, AI and machine learning workloads
- Implementing DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code practices
- Optimising performance, reliability and scalability across data services
- Working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to solve complex data challenges
What We're Looking For
- Commercial experience delivering Data Engineering solutions
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience building large-scale ETL/ELT and data processing pipelines
- Hands-on experience with Apache Spark and distributed data processing technologies
- Experience designing and operating cloud-native data platforms, particularly within AWS or Azure
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD delivery practices
- Understanding of data lake, data warehouse and modern analytics architectures
- Ability to work directly with stakeholders and translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions
Desirable Experience
- Data modelling and metadata management
- AI/ML data pipelines and feature engineering
- Geospatial, sensor, operational or intelligence-related datasets
- Experience working within Defence, National Security, Government or other regulated sectors

Security Clearance Requirements
The successful candidate must be eligible to obtain a high level of security clearance. Due to the nature of the work, candidates must be a sole British National.
Location
The role will require the successful candidate to be onsite 3-4 days a week with a customer in either London, Cheltenham or Manchester 3-4 days a week once you obtain your clearance.
