Data Engineer

We’re seeking a talented mid-level data engineer to join our Data Platform squad within ClearScore’s Data Mission. Data Platform is responsible for making sure our databricks instance is available, performant and meets the evolving needs of our internal users. As a data engineer on this team, you will own the fundamental technologies that enable our entire data function.ClearScore’s Data Mission is a dynamic collective of Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Data Engineers and Analytics Engineers who work collaboratively to ensure a landscape in which team members can reach their full potential and really make a difference. ClearScore is a fast-paced environment, so we aim to support and coach each other in our journey to support our users.Get stuck in and enjoy working in the open with a highly engaged, distributed team. This role is based out of Edinburgh and has a hybrid working model.

What you will be doing:

  • Collaborate with Data Analysts, Data Scientists and other stakeholders to understand their data requirements and support them with their initiatives
  • Maintain and optimise the Databricks instance, ensuring high availability, reliability, and scalability to support data engineering and analytics workloads.
  • Integrate and manage new data sources, ensuring seamless access for downstream consumers and maintaining data integrity across ingestion processes.
  • Design, develop, and implement platform-level features on Databricks to extend capabilities, including new data sources, integration pipelines, and reusable components for data engineers and analysts.
  • Monitor and improve the performance & cost of Databricks clusters, jobs, and queries, leveraging best practices for efficient and cost-effective data processing.
  • Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Databricks configurations, ensuring consistency, automation, and version control in a CI/CD environment.
  • Implement and enforce data security and compliance standards, including access controls, data masking, and encryption, in collaboration with security teams.
  • Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve our data capabilities.


Skills we'd love you to have

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer, with strong problem solving and software engineering skills
  • Cloud Engineering Knowledge (Ideally AWS)
  • Infrastructure as Code (Ideally Terraform)
  • Proven experience in delivering high-quality solutions that meet or exceed business requirements, with a strong emphasis on production readiness, robustness, and operational excellence.
  • Analytical mindset and a product focus
  • Cloud based data warehouses (Ideally Databricks)
  • SQL, Python
  • Data transformation tools (dbt)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Organised, critical thinker (not afraid to suggest new ideas) with the ability to thrive and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working within ambiguous problem areas with a high degree of self-governance.
  • You strive for improvement in your work and that of others, proactively identifying issues and opportunities, and are always looking to learn!

Our Hybrid Model
