Job Description 

Wood Mackenzie’s Long Term Power product team is responsible for a suite of products that enables our customers to make decisions that matter across the energy value chain. This includes Lens Power, our data analytics platform, that delivers insights at key decision points in end-to-end workflows. 

 

Establishing a resilient, sustainable portfolio is critical for energy companies as they develop agile business models to meet net zero goals. Our team delivers integrated analysis across the power sector, enabling customers to navigate energy industry dynamics, and make quicker, more effective decisions. 

 

We are seeking a strategic and technically adept Data Product Manager to lead the evolution of our data management tools, oversee the development of data schemata for the power and renewables sector and drive innovation in how we leverage data across our models and customer-facing platforms. 

 

This role sits at the intersection of product, data engineering and analytics. It is critical to ensuring our data capabilities scale with the needs of the business while enabling high-quality, reliable and actionable data for our clients and internal research teams. 

Main responsibilities 

Working in the Long Term Power customer segment, you will be working alongside our product, data, research and engineering teams and reporting to the Product Director.  

 

Responsibilities will include: 

 

Data Tooling & Infrastructure 

  • Own the roadmap and continuous improvement of internal data management tools. 

  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams to enhance our data capabilities  

  • Work with engineering to optimize pipelines for performance, reliability and cost-efficiency 

  • Lead initiatives to improve data consistency, interoperability and quality across systems 

 

Data Discovery 

  • Identify and evaluate new data sources to enrich our products 

  • Collaborate and align with the research and modelling teams to balance their needs with external clients 

  • Develop a strategy and roadmap for developing new data sources and enhancing existing ones based on creating new value to clients 

 

Cross-functional Collaboration 

  • Act as the bridge between technical teams and business stakeholders to translate data needs into product requirements 

  • Advocate for data best practices and drive adoption of data products across the organization.  

  • Partnering with stakeholders across departments to ensure schema alignment with business needs and technical constraints 

 

Measurement & Impact 

  • Define success metrics for data products and tooling 

  • Monitor usage, performance, and impact, and iterate based on feedback and insights 

 

We are a hybrid working company and the successful applicant will be expected to be present in the office at least two days per week to foster and contribute to a collaborative environment, but this may be subject to change in the future. 

 

Due to the global nature of the team, a degree of flexible working will be required to accommodate different time zones. 

Key Skills & Experience 

You will be passionate about bringing great products to market and solving our customers' biggest challenges. Your experience includes: 

 

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 

  • Ability to collaborate with and align a wide range of stakeholders around a shared vision: product, research, data, engineering and senior leadership 

  • Proven experience as a Product Manager, ideally in data or platform-focused role 

  • Familiarity with data pipelines and customer-facing data applications 

  • Analytical mindset with a passion for solving complex data problems 

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with APIs, SQL, Jupyter Notebook 

  • Background in software engineering or data engineering, including experience with: graphQL, Snowflake, Typescript, ReactJS is a plus 

  • Background in the power, renewables or energy industry is a plus
