What is the Job About?

The purpose of the Design Engineer role is to design equipment, specify components with supporting calculations, create detailed models and drawings and input to technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • This role would suit a qualified Mechanical Engineer with design experience in industrial, marine or subsea applications.
  • Designing and draughting equipment for a variety of marine-based handling applications including the following tasks:

- Creation of detailed component and assembly models and drawings

- Design verification through hand calculations and finite element analysis (FEA)

- Input to engineering documentation such as design reports, interface control documents, etc

  • The post will offer a variety of challenges including the provision of innovative design solutions for demanding applications, providing technical input to bids and enquiries and solving problems experienced during equipment build and test in the workshop.
  • Support for in-service issues may also form part of the role.
  • Occasional travel within the UK and overseas will be required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Experience of solid modeling using CAD tools
  • Experience of creating detailed production drawings for components and assemblies
  • Track record of checking production drawings
  • A flair for problem solving and innovation, a flexible approach to work activities
  • Intermediate or better Microsoft Office skills

Desirable

  • Experience of stress analysis using hand calculations and finite element analysis
  • Subsea engineering experience
  • Awareness of military environmental requirements, including equipment standards for Shock, Noise & Vibration and hazardous areas.
  • Experience using Creo, Creo Simulate and ANSYS

Qualifications

Essential:

  • BSc or BEng in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline or relevant Apprenticeship with HNC

Desirable:

  • MEng in Mechanical Engineering
  • Incorporated or Chartered Engineer Status
