i2 Group, a Harris Computer company, are currently recruiting for a DevOps Engineer on a permanent, full-time, remote-working basis. Whilst the position is remote, there is a requirement to visit the i2 office in Cambridge, UK when there is a business need to do so (circa 2 days per week).

We’re seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer with the ambition and flexibility to join our small team and help our customers to achieve their goals. The team integrate development and operations to enhance collaboration, automate workflows, and accelerate delivery cycles, enabling self-service for development teams, and fostering a culture of cloud excellence.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing i2’s products and services, which are used around the world by national security, law enforcement, military, and commercial organisations. You will be responsible for improvements around Developer autonomy, automation, and collaboration, often focusing on containerized deployments. You will be accountable for maintaining the reliability, scalability, and security of applications and services across various platforms, overseeing the implementation of best practices and CI/CD pipelines.

Position & Responsibilities

In performing this role your core duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Automating AWS infrastructure tasks using scripting and configuration management tools, e.g. CDK and CloudFormation
  • Implementing deployment architectures
  • Troubleshooting and resolving deployment environment issues
  • Collaborating with development teams to deploy and manage applications
  • Maintain and improve our build system for automated building and publishing of our products
  • Ensuring security and compliance across environments

What we are looking for

  • A Bachelor's degree in software engineering, or related discipline and experience
  • AWS Certification in one or more disciplines, especially related to DevOps or Cloud architecture, together with at least a year of professional experience
  • A solid understanding of AWS’s observability tools, particularly around product performance, security and costs
  • Proven experience of Linux and ability to diagnose issues
  • Proficient with source control and peer review
  • Solid understanding of Docker principles and experience in building production-grade Docker images
  • Object oriented programming and scripting. For example, Python, Typescript and bash
  • Experience in designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as CircleCI, Jenkins, Travis CI, GitHub Actions, or similar
  • Demonstrable ability to work on several projects simultaneously, balancing priorities according to requirements
  • Preparedness to undergo national Security Check vetting once in the role

Preferred (but not essential)

  • Solid understanding of Transport Layer Security (TLS) and encryption mechanisms.
