Job Description

Position Overview:

The purpose of the DevOps Engineer is to maintain the AWS environment utilised by the Speciality EMR Data (SEMRD) Development Team, ensuring it is fit for purpose and secure to the required standard, with comprehensive documentation.

Working with the Head of IT, the role holder will primarily be responsible for the maintenance, monitoring, security and new requirements of the AWS environment currently maintained by the Vantage SaaS Development Team. This will be achieved by utilising existing tools within the current environment and making recommendations for new products.

The role holder will lead and develop all aspects of DevOps within the SEMRD Team to remove the current burden from the existing developers, allowing them to focus on revenue generating client projects. You will need to have the technical experience and knowledge to assist and support the developers in the day-to-day operational tasks of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

•    Defining and maintaining existing policies and procedures to ensure alignment with CRG and Thermo Fisher's standard processes.
•    Ensuring new processes are implemented accurately through training and education.
•    Maintain and build infrastructure documentation. 
•    Ensuring system backups are supervised/maintained and tested on a regular basis.
•    Supervise and maintain threat detection applications on the SEMRD environments. 
•    Develop and supervise a hardware security patching process that is completed on a monthly cycle.  
•    Manage the software and operating system life cycle for all products. Plan and implement updates as needed.
•    Supervise the current hardware and software estate to ensure products going end of life are scheduled for upgrading in a timely manner. 
•    Provisioning of infrastructure components within the AWS cloud environment required by the Development team. 
•    Maintain the asset register for all implemented hardware.
•    Management of the change control system (CREQ) for SEMRD applications.
•    Implementation of system monitoring to ensure the environments are healthy.
•    Early warning notifications should be activated enabling proactive resolution of potential incidents.
•    Regular system log monitoring to comply with Thermo Fisher application requirements.
•    Supervise and act upon Vantage application logs that indicate potential system or security issues. 
•    Actively manage Vantage users, this includes activation, creation and retirement tasks. 
•    Maintain application access control for external products (Jira/GitHub)
•    Handle the Research data load process in AWS Redshift.
•    Distribution of the monthly reports built by the Product Team analysts.
•    Own the annual Vantage penetration test and remediation tasks.   
•    Disaster recovery implementation in AWS (multiple zones) and regular testing to align with business policies.
•    Ensure the systems used by the business have two factor authentication implemented where possible.
•    Implementation and monitoring of a Web Application Firewall to ensure systems are as secure a possible from intruder/actor penetration.
•    Maintain access control records for all data held within the business unit. 
•    Management and onboarding of new services.
•    Release management support.

Education, Professional Skills & Experience: 

•    Degree level education, ideally in Information Technology but not essential.
•    Proven experience in a similar role (2-3 years minimum).

Personal Skills & Proficiencies: 

•    Experience or curiosity about the healthcare and/or pharmaceutical sector.
•    Great listening skills, inquisitive with a desire to learn.
•    Excellent communication and outstanding interpersonal skills.
•    Willing to travel to the Hammersmith office when required.
•    Ability to communicate so others will understand; with the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
•    Ability to perform under stress.
•    Ability to multitask.
•    Regular and consistent attendance.
