DevOps Engineer

Contract: Permanent

Salary:  Circa £65k (Dependant on experience)

Working hours: 35 hours per week, full-time. You’ll agree your working pattern with your manager. 

Reporting to: Lead DevOps Engineer

Location: London Docklands – Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

The purpose of your role 

Using a “Cloud First” approach, our IT department provides the foundation for all IT services and delivers the core platforms and applications for our organisation. 
 

You’ll be using advanced technical knowledge to ensure consistent and automated deployments, continually drive improvements in DevOps methodologies and the technologies used, and work on a variety of projects to make sure the systems are working effectively and have the capability needed for the future. This includes ensuring security, stability, and compliance are always considered when designing or operating any service or environment. 
 

You will be the go-to people for anything related to system deployments and improvements, will take ownership of escalated technical problems and challenges, ensuring they are dealt with effectively and in a timely manner, and will be assisting with day-to-day operational and development needs.

You’ll be continually abreast of changes in the industry, ensuring we maximize our investment and actively collaborate with our external partners to ensure that our roadmaps align, and we take full advantage of technology as it evolves. You’ll review and investigate alternative tooling, tech and technical relationships to continuously improve the service.

As a strong communicator you will build relationships with other teams and our users to understand the requirements and improvements that can be made, and will be collaborating with Architecture, Development and Machine Learning/AI teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions. 

You’ll take ownership of new technical developments in your area, designing integrations and environments, weighing up a range of considerations and deciding the best course of action. You will be responsible for managing your work to meet project and operational deadlines, including SLAs around day-to-day support. 

Key responsibilities

DevOps Practices: 

  • Managing continuous integration/continuous delivery/deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and releases in Azure DevOps, including use of YAML for pipeline configurations. 

  • Automating platform deployments and environment setups using scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI). 

  • Collaborate with Architecture, Development and Machine Learning/AI teams to ensure seamless integration and delivery of solutions. 

  • Implementing monitoring, logging, telemetry, and alerting solutions to support reliable operations. 

Azure Infrastructure Management: 

  • Assisting in the design, deployment, and management of Azure cloud solutions. 

  • Implementing infrastructure as code (IaC) using Bicep and tools such as Terraform. 

  • Ensuring security and compliance by design within our Azure environments, in conjunction with our Architecture and Cyber teams. 

  • Collaborating with Development, Cyber, and Infrastructure teams to ensure smooth delivery and resilience of application platforms. 

  • Supporting the deployment and release of solution-aware components such as Power Platform solutions, cloud flows, Power Pages, and connectors. 

Platform Operations: 

  • Troubleshooting and resolving incidents across application and integration layers, escalating where necessary. 

  • Ensuring environmental parity between development, test, and production systems. 

  • Managing cloud-hosted environments across Dynamics 365, Power Platform, SharePoint, and Azure. 

  • Enabling and supporting the rollout of new platform services such as CoPilot. 

  • Documentation of infrastructure configurations and procedures, and the upkeep of the documents once solutions are promoted into production. 

  • Collaboration with other Infrastructure, Applications and Data teams to support business operations. 

  • As part of the wider team, monitoring and maintaining overall IT infrastructure health. 

To be considered for this role, you’ll need to show us that you’ve got the skills and capabilities. You’ll have to meet the following minimum criteria:

Minimum Criteria

  • A strong understanding of cloud computing and DevOps practices. 

  • In depth knowledge of generalised cloud best practices, with a focus on Microsoft Azure and its offerings. 

  • Hands-on experience supporting Microsoft Dynamics 365, SharePoint Online, Power Platform, or similar Microsoft cloud platforms. 

  • Proven experience with Azure DevOps, including CI/CD pipelines, repos, and release automation. 

  • Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, YAML, Azure CLI). 

  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, ARM templates). 

  • Familiarity with monitoring and telemetry tools such as Application Insights and Log Analytics. 

  • Understanding of cloud governance processes and best practices. 

  • Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 

  • Good communication skills, experience of dealing with all levels of stakeholders.  

  • The ability to work well within teams, both your own and those in other technical, project and business areas.
