About the role

We are looking for a Director of Engineering, to join Plum and lead 5 Product Engineering teams across one of our most critical Pillars: the User Pillar.

The User Pillar it’s a family of squads focused on the ever hot themes of onboarding, activation, engagement and monetisation. Specifically, you will lead a team of over 40 engineers across backend and mobile, and work closely with Product to define the direction and strategy for these teams.

This role is critical to us, and has the potential to significantly impact Plum! Your main areas of focus will cover scalability, quality assurance and testing, scaling high-performance teams, lead major cross-functional projects, and provide input into Plum’s most pressing strategic discussions.

Your key responsibilities 🎯

  • Partner up with the Product Director to create and refine the strategy and roadmap for the User Pillar
  • Manage up to 5 Engineering Leads, acting as a role model and mentor, coaching them and managing their career development.
  • Implement and nurture a framework of goals and metrics with the objective of quantifying the impact of your teams whilst aligning with business priorities 
  • Provide key input into the technical and architectural roadmap for your teams along with your Engineering Leads. 
  • Be responsible for resourcing your teams and helping on optimising hiring processes.
  • Create systems and processes to increase productivity and output of your teams, with a focus on ways of working and AI productivity enhancements.
  • Promote and implement a culture where quality of delivery and testing at scale are a key part of the development lifecycle.

Who you are 👀

  • You have a user-centric mentality, and enjoy working on domains such as onboarding, activation, engagement and monetisation.
  • A proven leader of cross-functional teams with a strong focus on outcomes and business impact, with experience of growing and managing engineering leaders
  • Effective on prioritization and ability to make and communicate key trade offs
  • Able to inspire and influence your teams, whilst promoting a culture of continuous improvement and collective learning.
  • Excellent communicator, simplifying complex technical and organisational challenges
  • Data oriented, and experienced in leveraging quantitative frameworks to measure the performance and resilience of our teams and systems. 
  • Previous experience on Fintech, B2C digital businesses and/or fast-paced scale-up environments is very valued.
  • You are impact driven, love a challenge, and have a self-starter mindset.
