Engineering Director, Media Engineering

We are looking for an experienced Engineering Director to join our 200+ product organization in Helsinki or in Berlin. In our Engineering Director role, you will be responsible for leading one of our engineering groups consisting of several engineering teams. 

As an Engineering Director you will be responsible for the people and the software delivery in the engineering group that you are leading. You will make sure that your engineering group works efficiently and can deliver and support the product features in the group’s area. In this role you would be working in close collaboration with their Product Director and Engineering Managers to define goals and improvement areas for their group as well as the Engineering Directors in other groups. Together with other Directors you will look at the larger engineering organization and participate in identifying problematic areas and finding ways to solve those. You will also be taking an active part in enhancing our hiring, management and working practices and drive changes that make our whole organization better.

• Mentor, grow, and empower your teams by giving them the skills, confidence and motivation to make decisions independently that lead to their personal and professional success, and enable them to become technical leaders.
• Improve the ways of working, making sure the organization supports the teams to deliver.
• Think ahead and set the vision and roadmap for your Group of teams.
• Ensure alignment of roadmaps and communicate clear boundaries with other Groups of product teams.
• Partner with recruiting to help scale your development teams by actively sourcing and closing the best talent.
• Bring out the best in the individuals in your teams by enabling them to do the best work of their lives.
• Ensure our services communicate with each other seamlessly, have minimal downtime, and recover quickly.

• Several years of experience successfully managing teams of engineers on large-scale projects
• Experience on working with strong product teams working simultaneously on discovery and delivery
• Ability to set a long-term vision for the team and drive long-term execution towards that vision
• A thorough approach to technical design and execution of large technical projects. Willingness to be hands-on at times and looked up to for technical abilities and experience.
• Good at communicating organizational boundaries, setting expectations with others, and interfacing with product engineering teams
• Able to mentor, coach, and develop engineers to do the best work of their lives. 
• Work towards forging close bonds of strong teams
• Familiarity with large scale data processing and platforms 
• Track record of hiring engineers at scale
• Ability and willingness to work for three days a week from our Helsinki office
