About the Role
SharkNinja's mission is to positively impact people's lives every day in every home around the world. As we continue to grow, we're adding an Engineering Director to our Advanced Development Floorcare team, based at our Battersea, London office.
This role sits at the front end of floorcare product creation, bringing technical depth and inspiration to our creative process. You'll lead the technology and feasibility work that shapes our floorcare product roadmap, working at the intersection of mechanical systems and connected technology (sensors, software, batteries, connectivity) to define what our next generation of vacuums and floor care systems can become.
What You'll Do
Lead front end engineering development for floorcare products, using ideation and innovation techniques to unlock and drive the roadmap alongside engineering and cross functional PD, ID, Brand and Test Kitchen teams across the US, UK and China.
Own the technology and feasibility phase of the floorcare roadmap, developing complete system innovations that combine mechanical hardware with sensors, software, batteries and connectivity.
Apply a detail oriented, critical thinking approach to floorcare design and failure mode analysis, using the full range of tools available to the team.
Communicate design concepts quickly and effectively through sketching, CAD layouts, 3D models and working prototypes to evaluate potential solutions.
Lead design and engineering studies, both independently and in teams, to solve technical and consumer facing challenges, keeping user experience central at every stage of floorcare product development.
Collaborate closely with the global AD and CI teams to ensure consumer focused, front end sensibilities drive the direction of floorcare development and are maintained through to five star product outcomes.
Coach and support team members, particularly junior colleagues, encouraging their growth and development.
Balance, prioritise and drive multiple floorcare workstreams across projects, alongside broader responsibilities, within fast paced schedules and deadlines.
What You'll Bring
Degree level technical qualification, ideally in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or Industrial Design with a strong engineering foundation.
Typically 8 to 10 years of experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Product Design or Industrial Design, ideally within consumer goods or household appliances, ideally floorcare or similar mechanical/electromechanical categories.
Experience with plastic, casting and sheet metal manufacturing processes.
Experience working with IP teams to track prior art and identify novel or inventive solutions within an AD or R&D environment.
Proficiency in Solidworks or Creo.
Proven ability to identify, solve, implement and verify technical solutions autonomously and within a team, including hands on prototype building, product testing and reporting of findings with clear next steps.
An all rounder mindset, with appreciation for electrical engineering, software and mechanical principles across the floorcare system.
A flexible, resilient and entrepreneurial approach, comfortable failing fast, learning and pivoting, with a genuine growth mindset toward personal and team development.
Willingness to contribute to internal working groups beyond the core role, helping to improve process, culture and working environment.
Ability to motivate a team toward autonomous problem solving, and to manage the hands on side of prototyping, testing and reporting.
A collaborative, inquisitive and driving attitude, key to success at SharkNinja.
