About the Role 

As Engineering Programme Manager – Scotch, you’ll be responsible for leading and delivering engineering programmes that improve performance, safety, efficiency, and sustainability across our Scotch operations. 

  • Location: Based in Scotland, with regular travel across Scotch sites and approx. 10% international travel for vendor FATs and global collaboration. 

  • Reporting Line: Reports to David Pugh, leading a core team of around 2 Project Engineers plus extended resources. 

  • Budget Responsibility: Manage an annual Capex cashflow of ~$20m across multiple projects. 

  • Scope: Programmes may include distilling equipment, bottling and packaging lines, automation and digital systems, utilities, warehousing and logistics infrastructure. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead and inspire a team of engineering professionals and extended resources. 

  • Oversee the planning and execution of maintenance, upgrades, and engineering projects across manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics. 

  • Manage large, complex projects and multiple concurrent programmes through effective contract and supplier management. 

  • Implement supplier development initiatives to enhance capability and performance. 

  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues while driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency. 

  • Develop and track performance metrics in line with Diageo’s Global Engineering Delivery Excellence standards. 

  • Ensure all activities meet regulatory, safety, and sustainability requirements. 

  • Contribute to Diageo’s Society 2030 goals through projects that deliver carbon reduction, water efficiency, and circularity. 

What We’re Looking For 

  • Significant experience in a senior engineering leadership role within manufacturing or production. 

  • Recognised engineering accreditation or equivalent professional qualification. 

  • Proven track record of delivering complex, multi-million-pound engineering programmes to time, budget, and quality. 

  • Strong experience in contract lifecycle management and supplier development. 

  • Broad technical understanding across distillation, packaging, utilities, and FMCG operations. 

  • Skilled in leading high-performing teams, developing capability, and fostering an inclusive culture. 

  • Excellent stakeholder management, decision-making, and conflict resolution skills.
