This role plays a key part in ensuring the accurate control, distribution, and maintenance of technical documentation and engineering data that supports our manufacturing and engineering operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a structured, technical environment and takes pride in accuracy, organisation, and supporting wider engineering teams. You will play an important role in maintaining the integrity of technical drawings and Bill of Material (BoM) data within our ERP system, while also supporting wider engineering administration tasks.

Based on site at our Loanhead facility, this role would suit someone who is highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with engineering, procurement, and technical teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

About Us

MacTaggart Scott primarily supports the Naval Defence industry, providing complete solutions to customer needs from analysis of initial requirements, through design and manufacture, and right through to commissioning and through-life support. Established in 1898, we are proud of our history and tradition but believe that sustainable competitive advantage can only be achieved through continuous improvement, investment, and a commitment to business excellence at every level within the company.

What is the job about?

As our Engineering Support Assistant, you will be responsible for the control and distribution of technical drawings and the accurate input and maintenance of Bill of Material (BoM) data within our ERP system. You will play a vital role in ensuring that accurate and up-to-date engineering information is available across the business to support manufacturing, procurement, and supply chain activities.

When workload allows, you will also support wider engineering administration activities, including Requests for Quotations (RFQs), NATO Stock Number (NSN) applications, and other semi-technical documentation tasks.

Success in this role comes from accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering and support functions to ensure smooth and efficient information flow across the business.

Key Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Issue manufacturing drawings (paper or electronic) to workshops, procurement, and subcontractors
  • Maintain accurate records of drawing issue, distribution, and revision status
  • Control and manage technical documentation in line with company procedures
  • Support the processing of Requests for Quotations (RFQs)
  • Input and maintain Bill of Material (BoM) data within the company ERP system
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of ERP system data relating to engineering information
  • Allocate tariff codes to components where required
  • Support NATO Stock Number (NSN) applications with accurate technical information
  • Provide general administrative support to the Engineering Support function as required

About You

  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Understanding of the importance of controlled technical documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and confident working with data
  • Able to communicate effectively across different business functions
  • Organised, methodical, and able to prioritise workload
  • Flexible and willing to support wider team activities when required
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach

Desirable:

  • Previous experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g. IFS)
  • Experience working with technical drawings or documentation control
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical systems
  • Experience with CREO and/or Windchill
  • MoD security clearance or experience working in secure environments
