About this role

Business Unit Overview

BlackRock Global Markets and Index Investments (BGM) brings together BlackRock’s Index Investments, Cash Management, Global Trading, ETF Markets, Securities Lending, and Financing & Financial Resource Management businesses. Together, we provide clients with superior market access and index investment outcomes through:

  • World class talent, operating at the intersection of investment insight, markets expertise, risk management and process design
  • Technology at the heart of our processes, with in-business tech teams that create cutting-edge IP, providing an advantage in quality, scale, and risk control
  • A focus on transforming markets, driving and advocating for more accessible, resilient, and transparent markets to deliver more choice and lower costs for investors

Job Purpose/Background:

BlackRock Global Markets (BGM) is investing in its capabilities to accelerate growth in BlackRock’s Fixed Income Asynchronous Liquidity Provisioning Strategy (FI ALPS) in EMEA.

BlackRock is transforming trading from a static one-way trading process to a networked, asynchronous trading platform to increase trading and alpha opportunities for clients.

The FI ALPS platform is a new centralized platform that will enable BlackRock’s investment teams to

interact systematically with internal and external liquidity pools at scale, advancing BlackRock’s role in integrating liquidity across investors and the trading ecosystem.

The platform’s event-based technology enables investment teams to run algo-based process automation and build business scale while setting the market standard in liquidity provisioning.

This is an exciting opportunity to operate at the intersection of Investments, Markets, and Technology as we transform how BLK provisions liquidity, capture more share, and extend liquidity opportunities as the platform and ecosystem evolve.

A successful candidate will be familiar with management of a wide range of funds and have strong technology skills, allowing them to develop robust prototypes to improve the PM/Trading investment process.  In this role they will have the opportunity to partner with various PM, Trading, and Technology teams to guide the integration of these prototypes into their workflows and evolve them into production components built into core BlackRock production technology.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build core tools and components to facilitate event-based liquidity provisioning to investors
  • Work directly with global Fixed Income PM teams (index, fundamental, systematic) to enhance investment processes and integrate algo and opto-based workflows into the ALPS platform
  • Work directly with global Fixed Income Trading teams to build trading algos and centralize ad hoc trading analyses and bespoke tools to run on-event and deliver insights directly to Traders
  • Design, build, and implement algorithms spanning research, pre-trade analytics, portfolio construction, workflow automation, and investment controls
  • Develop both prototype and production tools
  • Partner with Aladdin Engineering and BGM Data Platform teams to define platform requirements and interfaces needed to support PM and Trading teams
  • Partner with Aladdin Financial Engineering (AFE) and the Portfolio Analytics Group (PAG) to build and deliver liquidity, RV, and bond-specific analytics directly to investors via the ALPS platform
  • Partner with BGM Data and Analytics (DnA) to define liquidity data warehouse and streaming solutions to be used for research, model development, and real-time model applications
  • Partner with Trading to centralize and automate liquidity delivery, allocation, and trade routing
  • Partner with BGM Architecture teams to build common libraries and components
  • Partner with Aladdin Technology teams to enhance automation platforms including the Algo Platform

Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative background (at least BA/BS in Math/Science/Engineering/Computer Science)
  • Development expertise in Python
  • Deep understanding of Fixed Income Investment Processes (Research and Portfolio Management) across sectors or asset classes
  • Working knowledge of Fixed Income markets
  • Familiarity across a range of funds and investment styles (index/active, fundamental/quantitative)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and process-oriented approach
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills
  • Experience in technical-focused project management
  • Knowledge of BlackRock Aladdin tools
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, and perform diverse and complex tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
