Continuum Industries is on a mission to help the world accelerate the transition to a more sustainable future using Artificial Intelligence. We have developed Optioneer, an AI-powered tool that helps plan new infrastructure projects much faster, more sustainably and with lower risk. Since launch, we have supported over 40,000 km of new linear infrastructure; underground and subsea power cables, overhead transmission lines, hydrogen, and water pipelines. Optioneer is already used by enterprise infrastructure organisations such as; National Grid, BP, RWE, SSEN Transmission, Iberdrola and National Gas Transmission in the US, UK and Europe

We're looking for a Frontend Engineer to join our Applications Team (currently ~10 people) comprised of a mix of front end, back end, full stack and DevOps expertise. Based in our Edinburgh office we all have a passion for both engineering (all kinds) and technology with a positive impact.

Optioneer is a data-rich application. We ingest geospatial data on a national scale which Optioneer uses to suggest viable routes for infrastructure based on hundreds (if not thousands) of constraints. It is used by people with highly specialised knowledge in the infrastructure industry such as Civil/Design/GIS Engineers, Environmental Consultants and Project Managers to significantly reduce the time in which linear infrastructure is planned and developed.

As such it has layers of complexity in the data it presents, interconnects and displays. As we expand we’re going to be adding more data sources, more layers, more customers and more users. We want to make sure our front end is balanced; boosting usability and performance without losing functionality. We’re looking for a Frontend Engineer who can help strike that balance as we bring Optioneer to more and more customers and scale our operation globally.

Key Reponsibilities:

  • Ownership & Delivery of Features: You’ll get to work on projects that will be both within your existing capability and work on things that will stretch and develop you
  • Driving & Delivering New Functionalities: Innovate and implement new functionalities, including 3D visualization, data analysis, and real-time collaboration
  • Performance Improvement: You’ll look to proactively seek out ways to build on performance
  • Enhancing Usability: Make Optioneer easier to use without sacrificing functionality
  • Improving Reliability: Develop with resilience and robustness in mind

You'll bring:

  • Technical knowledge: Vue (or React) | Typescript | AWS | DevOps practices
  • Understanding: you will have worked with reactive architectures before and preferably in data heavy environments where small changes can make big ripples
  • Mentoring experience: you’ve experience in mentoring/coaching and naturally gravitate towards helping othersCollaborative mentality: it’s your default setting (and ours), our belief is we achieve more when we work together
  • Excellent communication: you will work with multiple areas on different work streams and interacting with both technical and non-technical areas of the business, the ability to communicate clearly across different areas is essential

Bonus points for:

  • Technical Knowledge: Vue3 | GraphQL | Simulation Software | Data-heavy frontend development
  • Diversity: Contribution to diversity, inclusion or accessibility initiatives
  • Community: Involvement in groups or communities in/outside of work, published articles/blogs/books

What you'll get:

  • 💸 Base salary + equity
  • 🌎 Ownership: You’ll own a piece of our company through our share option scheme.
  • 🤸‍♂️ Flexible working environment & hours. We're outcome-focused.
  • 🏖 Annual vacation entitlement: 34 days including local holidays.
  • 💻 Technology: A brand new Macbook (and work-from-home budget).
  • 🎓 Extensive upskilling opportunities (one dedicated learning day each month + learning budget).
  • 🌲 An opportunity to help us accelerate the world’s transition to net zero, and rewire the world with cleaner, green energy.
