**This is an opportunity to work for a remote-first company. Only applicants living in British Columbia will be considered for the role. Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.**
Our ValuesDriven by PLAYER OBSESSION, we earn our players’ trust by understanding their needs and creating experiences that put them first.
OWNERSHIP means we take responsibility for our work and outcomes; we follow through, learn from mistakes, and never say “that’s not my job.”
With RESOURCEFULNESS, we do more with less, finding creative ways to overcome challenges and deliver impactful results.
Grounded in CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, we are relentless in our pursuit of better; for ourselves, our games, and our players.
About KanoKano is an independent gaming studio that has been building and operating live games for over 15 years. Our games have long-running player communities, mature economies, live events, web and mobile platforms, and real business complexity behind them.
We are a small, remote-first team. People here have room to make a visible impact, but that also means we need people who take ownership, learn quickly, adapt and care about whether their work actually changes decisions.
About the RoleWe are hiring a Game Product Analyst to help us better understand our players, improve our games, and raise the quality of our games, marketing, and live-operations decisions across Kano. This is a hands-on analytics role working across product, games, marketing, LiveOps, technical quality, and our AWS-based data stack. This is not a dashboard-only role or a pure data engineering role.
The right person is strong with data, curious about games and product design, comfortable working in a technical analytics environment, and motivated to use AI tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and other emerging tools to move faster, validate work, and build better analytical workflows. We are looking for someone who embodies being humble, hungry, and smart, meaning you take ownership, ask good questions, work well with others, and care more about finding the truth than proving yourself right. You should be comfortable with imperfect data, changing priorities, and live products where decisions need to be made with the best available evidence.
You do not need to arrive as a senior expert. We are looking for someone early in their analytics career who has strong fundamentals, high ownership, good judgment, and the drive to grow into a high-impact product analytics partner.
What You’ll DoProduct and Game Analysis
- Analyze player behaviour and product changes across the entire lifecycle (onboarding, retention, monetization, progression, LiveOps, and game economy health).
- Run deep-dive funnel, cohort, and segmentation analyses to identify friction points, drop-offs, and player spending patterns.
- Translate ambiguous product questions into structured analyses, clear findings, and actionable recommendations.
Kano Analytics Stack & Data Quality
- Work hands-on with our AWS-based analytics stack (S3, Athena, DBT, Prefect) to create, maintain, and optimize robust ETL pipelines.
- Write cost- and performance-aware SQL to build analytical views that make core datasets accessible to the wider team.
- Proactively QA data pipelines and telemetry, identifying broken tracking, inconsistent definitions, or anomalies in event volume.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, and Design to architect tracking plans and define data telemetry before new features launch.
Experimentation & AI-Enabled Workflows
- Support the end-to-end design, success metric definition, and post-analysis of A/B tests and feature experiments.
- Leverage modern AI development tools to accelerate your SQL/Python scripting, workflow automation, and documentation.
- Build reusable notebooks, scripts, and analytical workflows to scale insights across our small, remote-first studio.
- 1-3 years of experience in data analytics, product analytics, business intelligence, data science, analytics engineering, or a similar analytical role.
- Strong SQL skills, including window functions and DDL statements
- Experience working with a cloud analytics environment such as AWS Athena, BigQuery, Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, or similar.
- Comfort working with S3-style data lakes, structured datasets, views, and analytical tables.
- Ability to use Python for analysis, data validation, scripting, or workflow automation.
- Strong analytical thinking and the ability to break vague questions into clear analytical steps.
- Ability to explain data in plain language and connect analysis to product, marketing, or business decisions.
- Interest in games, player behaviour, product design, monetization, engagement systems, and live-service products.
- Comfort using AI tools to improve productivity, analysis quality, and speed.
- High ownership, strong follow-through, and comfort working in a small remote team.
- Experience with AWS Athena, S3, Glue Data Catalog, S3 table buckets, Apache Iceberg, or similar lakehouse tools.
- Experience with analytics for free-to-play mobile games or consumer apps, including experimentation (A/B testing), player behavior, monetization, user acquisition, and marketing performance.
- Experience with QuickSight, Tableau, Looker, Power BI, or similar BI tools.
- Experience with Git, code review, documentation, or working in a technical team environment.
