To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add an experienced Global Head of R&D located in Castle Mills, Kendal.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, the Global Head of R&D will work with Engineering Leaders, Manufacturing Operations Management, Product Managers and other Engineering and Operational functional leaders, to lead the R&D Design Engineering team involved in the design, validation and implementation of innovative and cost effective product solutions of varying scope, in order to meet customer requirements from development of conceptual prototypes and architecture through development into full-scale production.

What a typical day looks like:

  • Direct and control the activities of broad functional area through several senior Design & Engineering managers involved in activities such as researching, designing, developing, modifying and evaluating integrated circuitry for electronic equipment and systems

  • Ensure Products are developed to the relevant product standards and specifications

  • Conduct on going analysis on existing products

  • Partner with other leaders to establish objectives and action plans

  • Ensure the development of Design & Engineering solutions for diversified industry segment covering a wide range of products and volume mixes

  • Ensure budget, schedules and performance indicators meet corporate guidelines

  • Provide technical and strategic guidance to subordinate directors to ensure achievement of goals and objectives

  • Develop and continuously improve people, methods, systems, processes and metrics in a complex and rapidly changing environment to improve customer satisfaction

  • Organize and lead reviews to ensure projects are delivered on time, as per cost targets and within quality specifications

  • Partner with Operations leaders to ensure Engineering & Design activities are well integrated with manufacturing operations including the use of Design for Manufacturability principles.

  • Implement appropriate HR Strategies and actions to recruit and retain a qualified and motivated workforce

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role, with a professional background in electrical or construction projects

  • Minimum degree level education in Engineering or related field

  • Current Head of R&D, or minimum 5 years in Senior R&D role with a global company

  • Strong people management skills and experience in growing / developing a team

  • The ideal candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic and conscientious with a high standard of attention to detail

  • Must be able to work accurately to deadlines in a busy and pressurized environment,

  • Demonstrate flexibility and have an understanding of basic electrical principles

  • Eligible to work in UK
