Graduate Software Developer

6-Month Fixed Term Contract | Hybrid – Manchester (2–3 days/week in office) | £30,000 per annum (pro rata)

About ICS.AI

ICS.AI is the leading provider of AI transformation solutions to the public sector, working with local government, central government, health, housing and education organisations across the UK. Our SMART: Unified AI Platform helps organisations move beyond AI pilots to measurable, guaranteed savings.  We've already helped clients such as Derby City Council identify over £12m in annual savings.

About the Role

We're offering a graduate opportunity to join our Central POD as a Harness Operator. "The harness" is our governed AI engineering framework.  It uses AI to build (or "print") client software at far greater speed than traditional development, while a human developer verifies every output before it ships. As a Harness Operator, you'll be right at the centre of this: turning client requirements into specifications, running build cycles, and checking the results against what the client actually asked for.

It's a fantastic entry point into a career in AI engineering and you'll get real, hands-on experience with modern AI tools (including Claude), modern web technologies, and how a fast-growing tech company delivers software to customers.

What You'll Do

  • Working with requirements and specifications for harness-printed products
  • Operate the harness by dispatching cycles and setting scope alongside our Architects
  • Review cycle outputs and relay summaries back against the original client need
  • Support basic architectural decisions under the guidance of our Technical Leads
  • Quality check software built with ReactJS and PostgreSQL

What We're Looking For

  • A Computer Science (or related) degree, or due to graduate
  • Evidence of learning beyond your course such as side projects, hackathons or independent certifications
  • Working knowledge of ReactJS and PostgreSQL
  • Hands-on experience with, or strong curiosity about, Generative AI tools such as Claude
  • A basic understanding of software architecture though you don't need to be an architect
  • No prior commercial experience required as this is a genuine graduate-level role

The Details

  • Contract: 6-month fixed term contract
  • Location: Hybrid, based from our Manchester office, 2–3 days per week on-site
  • Salary: £30,000 per annum, pro rata

How to Apply

You can apply via this link - we are looking for starters for the 10th August 2026.
