Duration: 12 Weeks - June to August
Application Closing Date: 8th January 2027
About Plexus & What We Build
At Plexus, we don't just write code—we bring complex physical products to life. From life-saving medical devices to cutting-edge aerospace systems and high-reliability industrial technology, our Bathgate Design Centre designs and builds products that make a real-world impact. As a global leader in complex product design and manufacturing services, we thrive on solving the tough technical challenges that others can't.
The Role
Are you a creative software student who loves working close to hardware? We are looking for an Embedded Software Engineering Intern to join our multi-disciplinary product development team for a summer internship. You’ll be exposed to diverse technologies, write low-level code, and see your software directly control real hardware in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform software design, coding, debugging, and testing throughout the product development life cycle.
- Collaborate directly with hardware, mechanical, and design assurance engineers to deliver integrated product solutions.
- Contribute to bare-metal embedded C/C++ development, driver development, or real-time operating system (RTOS) tasks on live client projects.
- Participate in design reviews, test execution, and hardware bring-up activities.
What We’re Looking For:
- Students currently pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electronics, or a related discipline.
- A strong foundation in C or C++ and an interest in low-level or embedded systems.
- Curious minds who enjoy lateral thinking, learning new tech stacks quickly, and working in a technically challenging environment.
Your Rewards and Wellbeing
We believe in rewarding your contribution with a comprehensive package designed to support your life both inside and outside of work.
- Growth: Bespoke development plans and volunteer time off
- Health: Private medical insurance, Employee Assistance Program and vision care
- Wealth: Enhanced pension contributions, life assurance, and group income protection
- Lifestyle: Electric Vehicle and Cycle to Work schemes, plus 33 days of annual leave
Application Process
At Plexus, we don't look for culture fit, we look for culture add. We value the unique perspectives you bring and review every candidate holistically, balancing professional experience, education and individual journey.
