Internal Audit at Aberdeen

Internal Audit is a key function in Aberdeen, supporting the firm in achieving its objectives, whilst effectively helping them to manage their risks. Based primarily in Edinburgh, but with colleagues in London, Singapore, and Frankfurt, we have a global remit and provide assurance to the Board, Audit Committees, and Executive.

We are currently looking for a talented and experienced IT Audit Manager to join our team. We are highly ambitious function who seek to innovate. The Role – IT Audit Manager

You will have a broad and deep understanding of key technology risks facing large financial services firms. You’ll bring experience of planning and executing a risk-based portfolio of technology audits, and of delivering high quality results both yourself and through others. Lastly, as well as building strong relationships with your audit colleagues, you’ll have a track record of developing credible and value-add senior stakeholder relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • The role is responsible for delivering high‑quality audit planning and risk assessment activities, producing robust and insightful assessments across the audit universe and reviewing the work of others to ensure consistency and depth.
  • It involves proposing and challenging audit coverage based on identified risks, coordinating the team’s planning cycle, and managing key stakeholder relationships to ensure alignment with business priorities.
  • The role also represents the audit function in governance forums, sharing insights and helping shape the understanding of emerging and strategic risks.
  • In audit delivery, the role oversees end‑to‑end execution of audits in line with agile methodology and quality standards, ensuring clear root‑cause analysis and proportionate, sustainable recommendations.
  • It produces impactful reports for senior stakeholders, manages multiple concurrent audits, and ensures rigorous validation of issue closure.
  • Alongside this, the role contributes to team leadership by coaching colleagues, fostering a high‑performance and innovative culture, and championing digital solutions to enhance ways of working, build capability, and support continual improvement across the audit function.

About the Candidate

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

Essential

  • Have broad IT experience and a sound technical understanding of IT risks and hot topics.
  • Be educated to degree level or demonstrate strong relevant industry experience.
  • Hold a relevant professional qualification (e.g. CISA, CISM, CISSP).
  • Have 2+ years experience as an IT Audit Manager with experience in line with the key responsibilities noted above.
  • Have delivered end-to-end assurance reviews covering risks associated with cyber security, technology resilience, cloud solutions, technology regulations, and other related disciplines.
  • Have an understanding of key technology regulations affecting financial services firms operating in the UK, EMEA, and further afield, such as Operational Resilience, DORA, and GDPR.

Desirable

  • Have a curiosity for emerging technologies and trends and the opportunities these provide.
  • Have experience in using AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot to enhance audit efficiency and quality.
  • Have worked directly in an IT function in a technical or analyst role.
  • Have held roles in a second line technology risk assurance function, providing support and challenge to first line colleagues across a range of different reviews.
  • Knowledge and auditing experience with IT and security related frameworks (such as COBIT, ITIL, ISO27001, NIST).
  • Knowledge and experience of auditing Identity and Access Management, including solutions such as Active Directory and EntraID.
  • Knowledge and experience of auditing third party IT partners and providers.
