The Junior Network Security Engineer Internship Program at EncryptEdge Labs offers a comprehensive, hands-on experience for those interested in building a career in network security. Over eight weeks, interns will work through challenges covering key aspects of network security, including traffic monitoring, firewall configuration, system security, vulnerability assessment, and advanced cybersecurity practices.

Participants will engage in practical tasks such as configuring firewalls using Cisco Packet Tracer, setting up VPNs, and performing vulnerability scans and penetration testing. The program concludes with final presentations and assessments to evaluate the knowledge and skills acquired.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Learn and implement network security techniques, including traffic monitoring, intrusion detection, and firewall configuration.
  • Secure systems through operating system hardening, patch management, and endpoint protection.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, and wireless network security testing.
  • Engage in advanced cybersecurity practices such as network segmentation and cryptography in network security.
  • Complete a final presentation and assessment to demonstrate skills gained during the internship.


Requirements Core Attributes:

Educational Background:

  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows/Linux) and basic network security concepts is a plus.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • CompTIA Network+
  • Cisco Networking Essentials 
  • Fortinet NSE 1 & 2 
Key Skillset:
  • Proficiency in TCP/IP protocols, subnetting, and basic network troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of firewall configuration, VPNs, and network segmentation.
  • Familiarity with security policies and how they impact network design.
Tool Proficiency:
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Wireshark, tcpdump, and Nmap for traffic analysis and scanning.
    • Network simulation tools like pfSense and Cisco Packet Tracer.
    • Basic configuration of security settings on routers and switches.
Logistical Requirements:
  • Access to a computer and a reliable internet connection.
  • Ability to establish a secure work environment (guidance and tools will be provided).
Preferred Experience:
  • Work experience or completed projects in network security or related areas.
  • Practical exposure to configuring firewalls, monitoring network traffic, and implementing security measures.
