On the frontier of design

We're moving through uncharted territory with brand new design challenges around conversation, UI, brand, TOV and applied machine learning AI that don’t have much precedent yet. We’re using all that to help people improve their financial health, solving money problems that make a very real and tangible difference to our users.

About the Role:

Cleo’s Growth pillar is focused on acquiring new users as efficiently as possible and helping all our users to get value from Cleo as quickly as possible.

As a Lead Product Designer in our Growth pillar, your work will be essential in driving the next phase of Cleo’s mission to help more people on their journey towards better financial health.

You will be working across two teams in Growth focused on how we can drive more users to use Cleo. The aim of this work is to find ways to increase organic growth through the viral loop at Cleo, and find ways to drive paid virality through referrals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work in a dedicated, cross-functional squad to identify and solve a range of current and new user needs that will create value for them and for Cleo as quickly as possible
  • Align design vision and KPIs, and help to raise the bar for design quality and consistency on the Growth pillar
  • Drive the long-term growth of Cleo products and features through a combination of data analysis, product ideation, and experimentation to optimise product experience
  • Influence strategy and roadmaps through using data and insights to understand trends in user behaviour and product usage
  • Execute on growth initiatives through designing high quality and impactful user experiences and journeys to land impact on product goals
  • Maximise the team’s impact and learnings through a test, learn, iterate design process

What We’re Looking For:

  • You should ideally have 5 + years of relevant experience and passion for growth focused work
  • You can share mobile app focused design work that shows a proven track record of high quality execution in high-growth, fast-paced and product-led businesses
  • You are a strongly outcome-focused designer motivated by balancing business goals and user experience via small, quick, incremental experiment led impact
  • You thrive on getting deep into the data and the details to optimise existing features and journeys
  • You are a proactive problem solver who can effectively bring structure to large or ambiguous problems to generate buy-in from stakeholders
  • You are a strong cross-functional collaborator who can partner successfully with tech and marketing stakeholders to deliver bottom line impact on growth

Additional preferred experience:

  • An understanding of cognitive psychology and how to apply social mechanisms in an ethical way e.g. gifting, referrals, engagement, activation etc
  • The ability to think beyond conventional UI patterns and come up with new creative ways to use AI and chat

How long will the process take?

We aim to move as fast as possible. Usually 3-4 weeks is enough time for us all to get to know each other.

  • Step 1: An initial intro phone call with our Talent Team to learn more about your experience and why you want to work at Cleo
  • Step 2: A craft interview with a Lead Product Designer to walk through some of your design work as well as get to know you
  • Step 3: A case study with a design manager and PM to present a more in-depth, end-to-end product problem you’ve solved
  • Step 4: A final Cleo values interview with two cross-functional peers from our Product, Data, Growth or Engineering teams

What do you get for all your hard work?

  • A competitive compensation package (base + equity) with bi-annual reviews, aligned to our quarterly OKR planning cycles. This role is levelled as PD4. You can view our public progression framework and salary bandings here: https://cleo-ai.progressionapp.com/
  • Work at one of the fastest-growing tech startups, backed by top VC firms, Balderton & EQT Ventures
  • A clear progression plan. We want you to keep growing. That means trying new things, leading others, challenging the status quo and owning your impact. Always with our complete support.
  • Flexibility. We can’t fight for the world’s financial health if we’re not healthy ourselves. We work with everyone to make sure they have the balance they need to do their best work
  • Work where you work best. We’re a globally distributed team. If you live in London we have a hybrid approach, we’d love you to spend one day a week or more in our beautiful office. If you’re outside of London, we’ll encourage you to spend a couple of days with us a few times per year. And we’ll cover your travel costs, naturally.
  • Other benefits;
    • Company-wide performance reviews every 6 months
    • Generous pay increases for high-performing team members
    • Equity top-ups for team members getting promoted
    • 25 days annual leave a year + public holidays (+ an additional day for every year you spend at Cleo, up to 30 days)
    • 6% employer-matched pension in the UK
    • Private Medical Insurance via Vitality, dental cover, and life assurance
    • Enhanced parental leave
    • 1 month paid sabbatical after 4 years at Cleo
    • Regular socials and activities, online and in-person
    • We'll pay for your OpenAI subscription
    • Online mental health support via Spill
    • Workplace Nursery Scheme
    • And many more!

We strongly encourage applications from people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people, parents, carers, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds.

If there’s anything we can do to accommodate your specific situation, please let us know.

UK App access: The Cleo app is no longer downloadable in the UK (but only until next year). If you’re an existing user, you’ll still have access to the app. But some features won’t be available (just for a little while). Why? 99% of our users are based in the US – where financial health is often overlooked. We’ve decided to shift our focus to where we can provide the most value and make the greatest impact for users who need it most. Then we’ll be able to apply what we learn to better support our UK users in the future.

What you need to know about the Edinburgh Tech Scene

From traditional pubs and centuries-old universities to sleek shopping malls and glass-paneled office buildings, Edinburgh's architecture reflects its unique blend of history and modernity. But the fusion of past and future isn't just visible in its buildings; it's also shaping the city's economy. Named the United Kingdom's leading technology ecosystem outside of London, Edinburgh plays host to major global companies like Apple and Adobe, as well as a growing number of innovative startups in fields like cybersecurity, finance and healthcare.
