Job Description

We are looking for a Lead Product Owner to work at the forefront of our Affordability domain within our Consumer Information business. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to work at the heart of one of Experian's main strategic areas.

The domain spans Open Banking, bureau-based affordability and screen-based credit risk products, and this is a dual role. Reporting into the Head of Product. You will lead and line manage the other Product Owners across the domain – setting the standard for how product ownership is done here, coaching the team, and raising the quality and pace of delivery across every squad.

We are looking for someone who leads by example: the person the other Product Owners learn from because of how they run their own team, not only because of what they say in a one-to-one.

Main Responsibilities

Domain Product Ownership

  • Own the total product backlog across the Affordability domain, ensuring it is current, well-shaped and delivered at pace.
  • Deliver against the domain product roadmap, prioritising work based on value, customer needs, compliance requirements and technical feasibility.
  • Contribute to the product strategy for the domain and ensure delivery stays aligned to it and to Experian's wider corporate goals.
  • Work with partners across departments to maintain a clear, shared view of the product and technology roadmap.
  • Act as an escalation point for product-related issues across the domain.

Product Owner for a Scrum Team

  • Drive the product vision and end-to-end backlog management for the dedicated Scrum team.
  • Translate requirements into clear user stories and acceptance criteria for the development team.
  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, review and retrospective ceremonies, upholding Agile principles and continuous improvement.
  • Make well-reasoned prioritisation decisions and keep the team unblocked.
  • Run this team as the reference example of good product ownership in the domain.

Lead and Coaching the Product Owner Team

  • Lead and line manage a team of Product Owners across the Affordability domain.
  • Set the standard for how the teams use AI in its daily product ownership, and coach Product Owners to adopt it well.
  • Coach Product Owners on backlog management, story writing, stakeholder engagement and prioritisation, adapting your support to each person's experience level.
  • Set clear, consistent standards for how product ownership is practised - definition of ready and done, story quality, acceptance criteria, roadmap and release communication.
  • Give direct, constructive feedback, and hold the team to the standards you set.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, development plans, objective setting and performance conversations.
  • Build a collaborative team culture where Product Owners share problems and solutions across squads rather than working in isolation.

Delivery Performance & Ways of Working

  • Measure product and delivery performance using data-driven metrics, implementing improvements that maximise value and return on investment.
  • Identify and remove systemic friction across squads - dependencies, handovers, unclear ownership and inconsistent practice.
  • Work across time zones with development teams in the UK and India.
  • Promote iterative value drops, shipping frequent, meaningful increments.
  • Use AI tooling to work faster and better - accelerating discovery, requirement drafting, documentation and analysis
  • Support the wider AI-led transformation of our platform and ways of working, ensuring AI is applied responsibly and within our data governance and regulatory obligations.
  • Be driven by maximising the pace at which we deliver value to clients whilst never compromising on security.

Regulatory & Governance

  • Ensure regulatory compliance and data governance best practice across the product suite, including GDPR, Consumer Duty and FCA affordability expectations.
  • Work with compliance, legal and risk functions to ensure requirements are built in rather than retrofitted.
  • Ensure Open Banking products meet AISP permissions, consent and data use obligations.

Stakeholder Management & Domain Expertise

  • Communicate delivery status and product decisions to senior internal stakeholders.
  • Serve as a domain subject matter expert, staying current on industry trends, the competitive landscape and emerging technologies.
  • Represent the domain in cross-functional forums and support client-facing colleagues with product expertise where needed.

Qualifications

  • Substantial experience as a Product Owner in an Agile environment, with strong command of sprint ceremonies and backlog management.
    • Experience leading, coaching or line managing other Product Owners or product professionals.
    • Experience in financial services or FinTech, ideally within lending, credit risk or affordability.
    • A track record of raising delivery quality and pace across more than one team.
    • Experience working with distributed or offshore development teams.
    • Analytical skills, and confidence using data to prioritise and to demonstrate value delivered.
    • Experience of a regulated environment and of working alongside compliance, legal and risk.
    • Experience of Open Banking, bureau data or credit risk decisioning products is highly advantageous.

Additional Information

  • Hybrid working, 2 days a week in our London office
  • Great compensation package and discretionary bonus
  • Core benefits include pension, bupa healthcare, sharesave scheme and more
  • 25 days annual leave with 8 bank holidays and 3 volunteering days. You can purchase additional annual leave.
