The Opportunity

We're seeking a Senior Commercial Legal Counsel who thrives in an agile, busy and varied environment, where you'll own and negotiate a range of commercial contracts. Critical to this role will be your ability to partner strategically and collaborate closely with our Go To Market (GTM) team, providing them with crucial contract support, training, and enablement whilst also exploring diverse projects/ fielding queries across the Finance, People, Marketing, Delivery, Tech, and Learning teams.

If you're hungry for ownership and eager to make an impact and provide legal insights across various business operations, this role is for you!

Specifically you will:

  • Be the main strategic business partner to our GTM team and provide them with proactive, commercially-minded legal guidance.

  • Ensure that Legal scales with and supports GTM in order to meet our ambitious growth objectives.

  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts for commercial transactions, including (but not limited to!) customer MSAs, various supplier T&Cs, consultancy agreements, non-disclosure agreements, recruitment agency T&Cs, RFPS/bids, public procurement framework agreements (both Multiverse template paper and third party paper).

  • Draft, review and negotiate data sharing agreements and privacy-related provisions in commercial contracts.

  • Confidently join customer calls to answer questions about/negotiate our contracts.

  • Work in collaboration with the team and/or independently on various deals under end of month, quarter, and year end time pressure.

  • Mentor and help develop a team of two junior legal professionals. You'll be responsible for supporting the Legal Director with internal team resource allocation, providing hands-on guidance on customer contractual negotiations, fostering a collaborative learning environment, and empowering them to build their expertise and autonomy as legal advisors.

  • Proactively identify risks to our business and solutions to eliminate or mitigate them.

  • Partner with our privacy team to address data protection and privacy requirements across our product and in commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.

  • Stay abreast and advise on current and emerging AI regulations and help develop compliant frameworks for our AI-driven products and services.

  • Provide legal support on ad-hoc projects and field queries across a range of business functions (e.g. Finance, People, Marketing, Delivery, Tech and Learning).

  • Proactively contribute towards Legal internal resources, playbooks and training as a senior member of the Legal team and report to our Legal Director.

  • Proactively set up agile risk-based processes and procedures - with a focus on utilising technology and AI to streamline and create efficiencies within the Legal team’s processes and ways-of-working.

About you:
  • Ideally c. 5-8+ years PQE qualified as a UK lawyer

  • Exposure to working in-house (by secondment or otherwise) in a technology start-up/ scale-up company where you will have business partnered/ worked strategically and closely with the GTM team

  • Strong GDPR, data and privacy acumen - with experience working on data protection/ privacy related matters.

  • Experience working with end-to-end B2B commercial contracts for customers and suppliers.

  • Be able to effectively consume and communicate information both to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong business vs risk acumen, i.e. possess a solid understanding for when the business needs a quick reply, as opposed to an extensive deep dive for an exhaustive answer.

  • Have the ability to judge when to escalate or/and get a second opinion.

  • Have demonstrable experience in leading and/ or mentoring junior legal professionals.

  • Have good organisational skills and are able to manage multiple (and sometimes complex) projects simultaneously with a strong work ethic and without compromising on attention to detail.

  • Thrive in an agile, fast-paced commercial oriented, hands-on environment.

  • Are curious, open and love asking questions/ solving problems.

  • Be a strong team player and display a “can-do” approach; no job is too big or too small.

  • Thorough, methodical, professional and committed to the Multiverse values.

  • A strong passion for and understanding of AI, including its legal and ethical implications.

  • Experience both in (1) advising on legal issues related to AI products and services but also (2) using/ implementing/ championing AI in your professional work. And if not demonstrable experience, it is imperative to have curiosity on this topic.

Desirable but not essential:

  • Training and qualification from a top tier law firm and/or in-house team is highly desirable.

  • Experience working in a SaaS technology company.
