Noble Panacea is a new revolutionary skincare brand founded by Nobel Laureate Sir Fraser Stoddart and launched in October 2019. The ground-breaking OSMV™ Technology at the core of the brand enables transformational efficacy and precision. We create deep respect & intention by adhering to the global principles of green chemistry. We take our commitment to nature and sustainability to all stages of product development, from R&D to packaging. Ultimately, we strive to promote absolute skin health by empowering all who seek authentic, natural, and ageless beauty.

We are seeking a Principal Backend (or Full-Stack) Engineer to lead the architecture, development, and evolution of the backend and API platforms that power our ecommerce, loyalty, and clienteling experiences. You will design scalable, secure services and build the integration layer that connects our digital products to CRM, SCV, and downstream data systems to enable personalisation, analytics, and Customer 360 capabilities.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role for an engineer who thrives on shaping platform strategy while executing on high-impact delivery. You will help define technical standards, elevate engineering quality, and guide the growth of our internal capabilities as we scale and partner with external vendors.

Responsibilities:

  • Own the backend and API architecture for our ecommerce, loyalty, and clienteling platforms, ensuring scalability, availability, security, and operational excellence.
  • Design, build, and evolve backend services using Node.js, TypeScript, and modern frameworks, emphasising maintainability, observability, and performance.
  • Lead integrations for global commerce, including payment processors, cross-border capabilities, fulfillment networks, and logistics partners, ensuring reliability and fault tolerance.
  • Architect and maintain scalable APIs and middleware connecting CMS, DAM, analytics platforms, and other digital experience systems.
  • Develop and own API governance, authentication, authorisation, and rate-limiting strategies to support Customer 360 and broader platform interoperability.
  • Define and implement observability standards, including logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting across tools such as New Relic, Datadog, or CloudWatch.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend, product, and data teams to deliver seamless, performant, and secure end-to-end user experiences.
  • Drive DevOps and platform automation, improving CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows, and cloud environment consistency.
  • Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices, including code quality, design reviews, documentation, and long-term technical roadmap development.

Requirements
  • 8+ years of backend or full-stack engineering experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex systems.
  • Strong proficiency in Node.js, TypeScript, REST/GraphQL API development, and distributed systems patterns.
  • Experience integrating third-party ecommerce, marketing, or digital experience platforms (e.g., loyalty, merchandising, A/B testing).
  • Proven ability to design, deploy, and operate microservices architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS or GCP, including serverless, container orchestration, pub/sub systems, and managed compute services.
  • Familiarity with data integration, event-driven architectures, and streaming platforms (Kafka, Pub/Sub, or equivalents).
  • Strong foundation in authentication, security, scalability, caching, and performance tuning.
  • Proficiency with CI/CD tooling, Terraform or other IaC, and containerisation technologies such as Docker.
  • Solid understanding of observability practices and platform health KPIs.

Nice to Have:

  • Background in ecommerce or digital experience platforms (BigCommerce, Shopify, Salesforce Commerce, or similar).
  • Interest in mentoring and helping shape engineering culture in a scaling, product-focused organisation.
