The Principal Data Engineer will be part of the Global Data Governance team and lead the technical implementation of Master Data Management (MDM) capabilities globally. This role is critical in shaping how master and reference data is captured, governed, distributed, and monitored across the organization. This role will implement and maintain data governance strategies, including enforcement of policies, guidelines, standard procedures, around key master data objects. The principal data engineer in data governance will be responsible for driving data quality; creating reports/metrics to ascertain data quality and integrity; research, analysis and root cause identification of data errors and providing key design input for application functionality.

What you'll be doing.
- Contribute to define the target state architecture for MDM & DQ services (reference/master data domains, hub/registry styles, match/merge, hierarchy management, and data quality controls).
- Architect and build scalable MDM solutions supporting priority domains (Material, Customer, Vendor, Finance, etc.).
- Partner with Data Governance, SAP, and platform teams to translate policies into automated controls, standardized data models, and lineage.
- Convert steward/SME requirements into implementable rules and workflows (e.g., approval chains, exception queues, remediation).
- Embed controls for data privacy, security, and compliance aligned with enterprise policies.
- Engineer robust data pipelines integrating SAP S/4HANA master data using ODP, CDS Views, SLT, IDocs, and API‑based ingestion.
- Delivery of governed master data through APIs, events, and curated data layers for enterprise consumption.
- Establish engineering standards, reusable components, and best practices across global teams.
- Contribute to data catalog and lineage integration; ensure technical metadata and business definitions remain synchronized.
- Support the implementation of data management, data governance, and data quality tools/platforms.
- Perform root cause analysis of data issues and ensure remediation according to data governance policies and standards.
- Develop audit and validation methods to ensure quality of master data using AI-Driven and automated approaches
- Assist with regular compliance reviews against policies and standards
- Identify downstream impacts of master data change.
What you'll need to be successful.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with data management/governance, including but not limited to data protection and/or data quality
- Experience with the SAP S/4 MDG framework-including configuring and customizing data models.
- Strong experience with SAP S/4HANA master data structures and extraction patterns.
- Experience working with MDM, Data Catalog, Data Governance, and PIM systems.
- Understanding of CPG industry specifics - product hierarchies, SKU proliferation, customer, vendor, pricing, TPM, BOM, and regulatory data requirements.
- Experience harmonizing systems, processes, and/or data across business areas and functions.
- Experience developing and implementing data governance policies and standards.
- Experience working on an agile team in a virtual, distributed environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and participate as an independent contributor with little supervision.
- Experience establishing metrics/key performance indicators to measure business impact and process compliance.
- Experience with Data modeling metadata/lineage practices, and performance tuning at scale.
- Familiarity with ABAP basics for data structures and exits; exposure to IDoc extensions/enhancements.
- Relevant cloud, SAP, or MDM vendor certifications will enhance the candite profile.
