Who we are
Samsara (NYSE: IOT) is the pioneer of the Connected Operations™ Cloud, which is a platform that enables organizations that depend on physical operations to harness Internet of Things (IoT) data to develop actionable insights and improve their operations. At Samsara, we are helping improve the safety, efficiency and sustainability of the physical operations that power our global economy. Representing more than 40% of global GDP, these industries are the infrastructure of our planet, including agriculture, construction, field services, transportation, and manufacturing — and we are excited to help digitally transform their operations at scale.
Working at Samsara means you’ll help define the future of physical operations and be on a team that’s shaping an exciting array of product solutions, including Video-Based Safety, Vehicle Telematics, Apps and Driver Workflows, Equipment Monitoring, and Site Visibility. As part of a recently public company, you’ll have the autonomy and support to make an impact as we build for the long term.
About the role:
This role is a defining opportunity for a Principal / Staff Product Manager to own the foundational layer of Samsara’s second-largest and original business, Telematics. Our data platform is the engine for physical operations, collecting real-time information from over 1.4 million connected vehicle gateways across the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
You will be the strategic IC responsible for the Vehicle and Asset Data Platform, ensuring we acquire complete, high-quality, and standardized data from a rapidly expanding range of physical assets - from trucks and cars to forklifts and heavy equipment. This isn't just about data acquisition; it's about building the core system that drives every critical feature in the Telematics ecosystem: Maintenance, Sustainable Fleet / EV Management, diagnostics, and compliance.
You will define the strategic roadmap, execution, and innovation for this critical platform. This includes evolving the public-facing APIs that thousands of customers use to manage their vehicle lifecycle, and strategically driving third-party integrations to enrich the ecosystem. This is a role for a proven technical platform builder who thrives in ambiguity, uses a deep data-driven approach to solve complex, enterprise-scale problems, and is motivated by delivering measurable, real-world impact at an inflection point for the company and the industry.
You should apply if:You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won’t be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
You’re energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-caliber team that will encourage you to do your best.
In this role, you will:- Define the long-term vision and roadmap for the Vehicle and Asset Data Platform, strategically positioning it as a multi-hundred-million dollar platform that drives significant new revenue streams and enhances the efficiency of every dependent product team.
- Own and optimize the data acquisition process from a fleet of 1.4M+ connected devices to ensure complete and high-quality data ingestion.
- Evolve the platform's capabilities for standardizing and centralizing vehicle data, supporting the growth of all dependent product features across the Samsara portfolio.
- Be accountable for continuously improving data consistency and accuracy across our entire vehicle data ingestion pipeline, treating it as a core platform quality metric.
- Strategically lead OEM integration efforts by using a data-driven approach to track vehicle market share trends and proactively partner with product and engineering leaders.
- Develop new, impactful Telematics offers for emerging vehicle types, such as Heavy Duty vehicles.
- Drive cross-functional collaboration with engineering and downstream product teams, managing the intake and prioritization of vehicle data platform needs.
- Communicate and evangelize your roadmap and priorities to executive and cross-product line leadership, seeking out opportunities for joint innovation.
- Partner with customer-facing teams to close strategic accounts and maintain relationships with top-tier customers, serving as a deep technical product expert.
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally.
Minimum requirements for the role:
- A proven track-record of driving measurable business impact through shipping product, not just managing activity or competencies.
- Demonstrated experience in defining and executing a product roadmap for complex technical platform areas (e.g., core infrastructure, external APIs, data platforms).
- Strong technical acumen, with a deep understanding of how to build for enterprise-scale, reliability, and performance; capable of establishing immediate credibility with engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in significant ambiguity, using an analytical and data-driven approach to measure progress toward goals and make difficult investment choices.
- Excellent communication skills, with comfort in presenting to customers, internal audiences, and senior executives.
- 10+ years of job experience in relevant technical Product Management or equivalent roles.
- BS/MS degree in STEM (Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent professional experience (e.g., software engineering background).
An ideal candidate also has:
- Experience developing and launching highly successful developer platforms or public-facing APIs.
- Prior experience working on a product with a high volume of IoT data, real-time streaming data, or complex physical-world inputs.
- A background in data platform, infrastructure, or platform-as-a-service (PaaS) product management.
