Sheffield is our biggest candy confectionary site in Europe where we produce iconic brands like Allsorts, Jelly Babies, Maynards Bassetts, Trebor Mints as well as the delicious Ritz Crisp & Thin. Founded in 1842, our site in Sheffield makes approximately 40,000 tonnes of sweets each year. We are now looking for a Process Engineer with a Mechanical focus to join us, at the heart of our Manufacturing operations within different areas of the plant.
The key role Process Engineer role is to work with the line operators and technicians by building their capability to eliminate losses, through the use of systematic approaches and equipment / process knowledge. Driving improvement in reliability and stability of line operations and processes.
How you will contribute
Loss analysis and ownership/delivery of cost metric (through GE and Waste improvement) for Line
  • Understand key losses on line.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and projects.
  • Take responsibility for implementation by leading and coaching the line teams on losses.
  • Drive site productivity using IL6S Techniques (Owning centerlining, Minor Stops, SMED).

Drive Process reliability and stability by solving the chronic problems on the line
  • Understand and analyse process variability on line and define systems to eliminate them.
  • Ensure we identify CTP & CTQ measures / parameters on line and Implement SPC measures
  • Define critical process parameters and centre-lines; track and ensure adherence to them.
  • Give technical confirmation to any request or project proposal that affects the process or equipment.

Process data gathering and issues analysis
  • Implement and maintain systems to collect, collate and analyse data on key process parameters.
  • Identify and prioritise process capability issues for performance or cost.
  • Coach and teach the team to solve these issues.

Technical Mastery of the line
  • Become an expert in the technologies / equipment of the line.
  • Develop and teach operating procedures (SOPs) and ensure they are fully effective.
  • Develop forward plans for the technologies.

Capability building of others
  • Use FI systems to build capability of operators and technicians.
  • Develop and deliver training and skills improvements.
  • Ensure there is a high level of technical competence within the operating team.

What you will bring
A desire to drive your future and accelerate your career and the following experience and knowledge:
  • University education in engineering (ideally chemical or Mechanical, however other relevant engineering degree considered) (Required).
  • Placement experience in the Food Industry (Preferred).
  • Experience in leading or coaching others (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes and programmes (Required).
  • Coaching mindset - succeed through others (Required)
  • The ability to work on multi projects.
  • Fundamental know how and experience in food processes and products (Preferred).
  • Good knowledge of engineering health and Safety and legislation (Preferred).
  • Analytical and conceptual skills, technical judgement and design knowledge (Preferred).
  • Interpersonal savvy / Understanding others.
