It's time to pioneer the AI accounting firm of the future 💥

Hey 👋

We're Strival, and we're building the AI-powered accounting firm of the future.

We're developing a proprietary AI platform which is the heartbeat of our operations. It lets us deliver an unparalleled client experience that's hard to replicate with traditional accounting firm structures.

Imagine this: an accounting firm where every client gets rapid, proactive, high-quality advice from a human who truly understands them, all backed by vast, instant, and incredibly deep knowledge. This kind of integrated service is simply not feasible with the traditional accounting firm model today.

We do this by supercharging human accountants. We transform them from professionals bogged down in process and admin into highly-skilled, rapid-moving, emotionally intelligent advisors.

AI is transforming accounting, and we believe those who embrace this change from the ground up will win. Those who don't will be left behind.

So, are you up for it?

Rob & Bahador

Co-Founders

⭐️ The Role

This is a hands-on role. You'll primarily be diving into client work (the parts we haven't automated yet!), and then you'll help us figure out how to automate it.

The client work can be anything like:

  • Preparing year-end accounts and tax returns

  • Doing finops/bookkeeping (Xero, Dext, Hubdoc, Crezco etc)

  • Doing personal tax returns and sole trade accounts

  • Chatting to clients and helping them succeed.

You don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should be comfortable tackling all of the above without too much assistance from us. Crucially, you'll know what you don't know – that's where our AI comes in.

⚙️ The Tools We Use

Our proprietary AI platform will be the firm's control centre. It will handle all the admin, and we'll continuously build new micro-tools to 10x the client experience.

Of course, we can't (and shouldn't) rebuild everything from day one, so we're also using some traditional tools to get the ball rolling:

  • Xero

  • Dext / Hubdoc

  • Taxcalc (the UX of this makes us cry)

  • Slack

  • Google Drive

📚 Your Experience
  • Qualified accountant (we’re looking for a solid baseline of knowledge)

  • Experience in a client-facing role (you should be comfortable talking to clients)

  • Able to pick up new tools quickly and easily – you'll know your way around AI tools, as well as more traditional accounting tools.

  • Confident in figuring things out as you go.

  • You’re excited by the future of AI, but apply critical thinking to it (you don’t blindly trust it and know the limitations)

You don’t need to have worked in-house for this role, but if you’ve done that we’ll see it as a plus.

⛔️ What We're Not Looking For
  • Someone who needs lots of direction and guidance

  • Someone who trusts AI 100% and over-relies on it

  • You like the traditional accounting firm model

🤝 What We're Offering

We'll be honest here: it's currently just the two of us, so we haven't implemented a full suite of benefits yet. What we can tell you is the salary will be approx £40-£50k. We're absolutely committed to making Strival an amazing place to work and will go the extra mile to make that true.

In the coming months, we'll introduce things like private medical insurance, learning & development budgets, proper socials, and more.

In the future, we want to implement some kind of equity program (or profit-sharing scheme) too.

📝 A Few Other Notes

📍 This is largely a remote role, but we’ll likely spend time together in either London or Cambridge.

📅 We’re flexible - we care about results/progress, not the time you clock in and out.

📣 The interview process will be around 3 to 4 conversations with Rob and Bahador covering your experience, career and why you think this is the right role for you.

💙 We encourage applications from all individuals, regardless of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status etc. Also, if you think you don’t meet 100% of this job spec, apply anyway!

🌍 As we can’t sponsor visas just yet, applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

What you need to know about the Edinburgh Tech Scene

From traditional pubs and centuries-old universities to sleek shopping malls and glass-paneled office buildings, Edinburgh's architecture reflects its unique blend of history and modernity. But the fusion of past and future isn't just visible in its buildings; it's also shaping the city's economy. Named the United Kingdom's leading technology ecosystem outside of London, Edinburgh plays host to major global companies like Apple and Adobe, as well as a growing number of innovative startups in fields like cybersecurity, finance and healthcare.
