We are rebuilding biotech for the AI era.
When a breakthrough is delayed, the world waits. Getting a molecule from discovery to patients, or a crop from lab to field, involves thousands of slow, manual, disconnected steps. AI has the potential to change this, compressing decades of R&D work into years. But that only happens when clean, structured scientific data and AI are built into how science gets done.
Benchling is the AI platform for biotech R&D. Scientists use Benchling to design experiments, capture structured data, and run AI agents and models directly in their workflows. Over 200,000 scientists around the world trust Benchling to power their most important work, from academic labs to Sanofi, Moderna, and more than half of the world's top 50 biopharma.
We’re building an AI scientist for our customers. We can’t do that if we haven’t built the muscle ourselves. AI fluency is the foundation we build on; it's core to how we work, and we're committed to helping every new hire integrate it into their day-to-day. As part of our interview process, you'll complete a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion so we can understand how you think about and use AI to drive impact in your role. Feel free to reference any tools, platforms, or workflows you use today.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Enterprise Applications team at Benchling is looking for an experienced Salesforce Engineer who has deep experience scaling and optimizing a rapidly growing Salesforce instance. As a Salesforce Engineer, you will work alongside Enterprise Apps development teams and other business stakeholders across the organization. Salesforce is one of our most critical business platforms, and this person will create and implement impactful processes and frameworks that ultimately guide and support the overall business strategies for our sales, customer experience and revenue teams.

You will bring senior-level judgment to complex CPQ and billing challenges, own CI/CD and release quality, and help shape how we adopt emerging AI capabilities across the platform. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who pairs strong technical depth with a business-first mindset.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own the end-to-end Salesforce ecosystem at Benchling, including deep Salesforce CPQ expertise (product, pricing, quoting, and approval configuration) and its integrations

  • Design, build, and maintain integrations between Salesforce and downstream ERP, billing, and data platforms using Workato, and configure document and contract workflows using Conga

  • Own CI/CD, release management, and deployment quality using Gearset, including automated testing and environment governance

  • Collaborate closely with Sales, Professional Services, Customer Experience, Product, Engineering, Security, and TechOps stakeholders, operating as a project owner, and partner with Enterprise Apps team members to refine requirements and drive scalable solutions

  • Evaluate, select, implement, and integrate technology tools, applying AI-assisted development and platform tooling where it improves velocity and quality

  • Implement Salesforce solutions that adhere to platform best practices, perform peer and vendor code reviews, and design, build, and test scalable enhancements such as custom objects, page layouts, and APIs with internal and third-party cloud solutions

  • Improve and build solutions to address architectural gaps or technical debt, and monitor performance, scalability, and refactoring needs

QUALIFICATIONS
  •  Minimum of 5+ years of Salesforce application development experience, with hands-on Salesforce CPQ expertise (product and pricing configuration, bundles, quoting, and approval workflows)

  • Experience building and maintaining integrations with Workato (or comparable iPaaS) across ERP and billing systems, and experience with Conga (CLM, document generation, or CPQ) or comparable contract and document automation tooling

  • Experience owning Salesforce CI/CD with Gearset (or comparable DevOps tooling), including automated testing and deployment governance

  • Certified Platform App Builder, Platform Developer 1 & 2, and Administrator 201, with proficiency in Apex, Lightning, SOQL/SOSL, and JavaScript, and working knowledge of one of Java, Go, or Python

  • Experienced with Salesforce SOAP, REST, and BULK APIs, Web UI frameworks (Lightning components or Visualforce), data management and migration principles, plus Jira, Agile, Scrum, and CI/CD practices

  • Demonstrated AI fluency and interest: hands-on use of AI development tools (for example Agentforce, AI-assisted coding, or agentic DevOps tooling) and curiosity about applying AI to enterprise workflows

  • Business-first approach to building systems, with strong verbal, written, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and a B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent work experience
