Description

The opportunity

We have an opportunity for a Senior Accountant (FTC) to join us on the exciting and rewarding path we are taking here at Castle Trust Bank. Having become a fully authorised bank in 2020, we pride ourselves in being a fintech challenger bank, providing specialist property mortgages, retail finance lending and savings accounts to a variety of customers.

Joining our Finance function, this is a key role supporting technical areas of Finance including the development of new processes and models relating to technical accounting matters, financial statements disclosures and the associated auditor relationships.

Finance technical models – you will manage and enhance key Finance models (including amortised cost, EIR, and hedge accounting), ensuring validation, monitoring, accurate data, and reconciliations. Responsibilities include overseeing monthly outputs, analysing significant changes, and owning stage 3 individually assessed mortgage impairment models, while supporting automation and collaborating with the credit risk team.

MI, financial statements and audit – you will manage monthly MI models, ensuring the accuracy of all inputs, outputs, and technical disclosures in the financial statements. Your duties will include validating and reviewing financial statements – covering areas such as cashflows and credit risk – whilst monitoring audit comments. You will also coordinate the front half of the financial statements with relevant departments like Risk, Legal, and HR to ensure legal, disclosure, and consistency requirements are met, and conduct going concern assessments at year end.

The role will be on a hybrid working arrangement, 3 days a week from either our Basingstoke or London office and the rest of the week from home. Please note this is a fixed-term contract opportunity for up to 6 months in duration.

What we are looking for in you…

What is important to us is that you have proven experience in retail banking accounting (with an accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) and technical account matters, including good understanding of IFRS9 and ECL calculations. You will have a strong understanding of Finance processes and underlying data flows with experience in key Finance systems (general ledger, reconciliation systems). Considering the nature of the role, you will need to have experience in working with third party consultants /auditors (previous experience working in audit with retail banks would be advantageous). Advanced Excel skills are also important, and Power BI knowledge would again be advantageous.

What is equally important is that you are an excellent communicator with the ability to work well and influence across teams/departments. You will need a professional mindset and approach in all aspects of working. You will be able to effectively scan the horizon and proactively overcome any obstacles, possessing excellent planning and organisational skills.

What’s in it for you…

As well as a competitive salary, we offer a generous contributory pension scheme through Hargreaves Lansdown, life assurance, 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays on top) with the option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days (terms apply).

Wellbeing is also high on our agenda, and we offer healthcare benefits through Equipsme. In addition, all colleagues have free access to TELUS Health EAP to support their health and wellbeing. We also offer free eye test vouchers and discounted gym membership, and if that’s not enough, we also offer season ticket travel loans (if applicable).
