Senior Counsel
Overview
Mastercard is looking for an energetic corporate/commercial attorney to join its dynamic and commercially focused legal team to serve as a legal partner for its Services business.
Services provides end-to-end solutions through its innovative and proprietary transaction data analyses, data-driven consulting, security solutions and marketing services to help clients optimize, streamline, and grow their businesses, and also focuses on providing market-leading, innovative cardholder-benefits and rewards to clients' cardholders.
Under the direction of the VP, Senior Managing Counsel, Services, this position will provide legal and general commercial support across the Europe region for the Services business.
The position will be located in Angel Lane, London.
The Role
• Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial contracts ranging from simple, high-volume statements of work to complex partnership and novel/strategic deals through transactional agreements, consulting agreements, technology agreements, marketing and promotional campaign agreements• Liaison in aligning and collaborating across various business and legal teams, including with regional counsels• Advise and support on product development and go-to-market implementation• Strategic partner and trusted advisor to a demanding, fast-paced business unit, counseling the business on deal-specific as well as general business matters• High level of interaction with business clients• Manage and advise on wide-ranging legal issues including data usage/privacy, intellectual property, compliance and regulatory by partnering with subject matter experts and other stakeholder teams, and balancing these issues against reputational risk to ensure consistent alignment with corporate strategy, internal policies and procedures and applicable laws and regulations; and• Provide back-up support to international colleagues, as needed
All About You
• A UK or other jurisdiction qualified lawyer • Solid transactional training and experience (preferably from a highly reputable law firm) • Strong drafting and negotiations skills with the ability to manage complex issues and deal structure• Fluency in English (any other EU languages a bonus)• Ability to manage, perform and enjoy highly repeatable and high volume work in addition to strategic and unique issues• Pragmatic, solutions-oriented, business-friendly, creative, thought provoker, and an advocate for the business with a "let's make it happen" attitude; • Must have leadership skills in bringing different perspectives together and work through competing priorities• Able to work independently and collaboratively in a truly global organization• Must multi-task effectively in an extremely fast-paced team environment with short turnaround times• In a role that sits truly at the coal-face, you will have strong communication skills and the ability to handle significant customer contacts• A team player willing to take on responsibilities and roles that support the immediate team, the region, and the wider Mastercard family
