Asda is building a data-driven culture where insight fuels action. As a Data Scientist, you’ll play a vital role in delivering analytics and modelling work that directly supports smarter, faster decisions across the business.

This role is perfect for someone who’s technically capable but commercially curious — who wants to see their work create clear, measurable value. You’ll be working in a hybrid cloud environment (Azure, Databricks), applying your skills to real challenges in areas like customer behaviour, operations, and digital journeys. You'll learn from experienced colleagues, develop your craft, and help embed analytics into everyday business processes.

What You'll Love

  • Create Value Through Insight: Design and deliver data science solutions that drive outcomes — whether it's increasing efficiency, reducing cost, or improving customer experience.
  • Build & Apply Models: Support the development of predictive and optimisation models using Python, Databricks, and Azure. Help ensure outputs are robust, interpretable, and actionable.
  • Enable Data-Driven Decisions: Develop dashboards and visual narratives using Power BI that translate data into insight business users can act on.
  • Work Closely With the Business: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand their goals and make sure analytics work is aligned to practical business needs.
  • Support Delivery at Pace: Take ownership of discrete workstreams within larger projects, ensuring timely, accurate, and business-relevant outputs.
  • Grow Your Impact: Learn and develop in a high-performing team with clear opportunities to increase your influence and responsibility over time.

What You’ll Need

Essential:

  • Experience working in analytics, data science, or a related function, with evidence of delivering results.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and visualisation using open source libraries.
  • Strong problem-solving mindset with a focus on delivering answers, not just analysis.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Self-starter who thrives in fast-moving environments with a strong sense of ownership.
  • A numerate degree (e.g. Maths, Stats, Engineering, Computer Science).

Desirable:

  • Experience using Databricks or working in a cloud-based environment like Azure.
  • Exposure to MLOps, version control, or productionising models.
  • Experience working with Jira and Confluence in an Agile environment is advantageous.
  • Streamlit, Power BI or other standard BI software experience
  • Experience from outside the retail sector is welcome — we're open to transferable skills.

Why Join Asda Insight & Analytics?

  • Be part of a growing, high-visibility data team with a clear mandate for impact
  • Solve practical, varied business problems — not just build models for their own sake
  • Access a modern tech stack: Azure, Databricks, Power BI, Python
  • Flexible hybrid working with strong team culture and individual ownership
  • Competitive compensation, including:
    • 7% Stakeholder Pension Plan
    • 10% Asda Colleague Discount
    • Free Parking at Asda House, Leeds
    • Supportive development culture with a strong pathway for progression

Everything you'll love

To ensure we balance moments where we know we need to collaborate together and the need for flexibility, Asda has a hybrid way of working with a minimum 3 days a week in one of our Home Offices.Over and above this, each area of Asda may have additional requirements which may require spending more days in the office, visiting suppliers, stores or depots.

You will also get an excellent benefits package including:

  • Discretionary company bonus
  • Company pension up to 7% matched
  • 15% colleague discount in store and online
  • Free access to wellbeing services such as Wagestream, 24/7 virtual GP, counselling, health and dental cash plans and a 24/7 employee assistance helpline, alongside discounts across a range of services and activities, from airport parking, enhanced  to theme parks and cinemas.
  • Asda Allies Inclusion Networks – helping colleagues to make sure everybody is included and that our differences are recognised and celebrated
  • Excellent parental leave policies, including maternity & adoption leave, paternity leave, shared parental leave, neonatal care leave, and support for those doing fertility treatments.

We want all colleagues to be able to bring their best and true selves to work, every day. Simply put, we want our colleagues to be Proud to be Asda and proud to be themselves
