Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

At Scottish Water Horizons, we’re turning Scottish Water’s land and infrastructure into a platform for sustainable growth. As its commercial subsidiary, we enable innovative, low-carbon solutions across energy, heat, housing and waste – supporting Scotland’s journey to net zero and beyond.

From green hydrogen to heat recovery, innovation testing to housing infrastructure – our works spans multiple sectors. But to grow our reach and reputation, we need a someone who can bring our story to life – strategically, creatively, and credibly.

We’re looking for a hands-on Senior Marketing & Communications Consultant who’s equal parts thinker and doer. Someone who can shape our voice, support our brand, engage stakeholders, and lead communications and campaign activity that drives leads, and builds trust.

We’re a small, ambitious team delivering the full marketing and comms mix across a diverse commercial portfolio. From shaping marketing strategy and writing copy to creating visual content, running campaigns and supporting internal engagement – we roll up our sleeves and get it done.

What you’ll do

You’ll lead on marketing and comms projects for Scottish Water Horizons. That means everything from shaping strategy and creating campaigns to writing sharp copy and managing our digital channels.

You’ll work across our commercial portfolio to design and deliver activity that raises our profile, drives engagement, and generates leads. You’ll craft content for different audiences and channels – web pages, case studies, social media, sales materials, thought leadership and internal comms.

You’ll look after our digital presence, making sure our website, SEO and social media are up to date and effective. You’ll help plan and deliver events, work with external agencies and designers, and make sure everything we put out is clear, consistent and on-brand.

You’ll also support internal communications, helping us engage colleagues and keep everyone informed and connected.

What you’ll need

You’ll need strong experience in B2B marketing and communications. You might have worked in infrastructure, energy, sustainability or a related sector – but what matters most is that you can turn complex topics into content that people understand and care about.

You’ll be a confident and creative communicator who can adapt tone and style to different formats and audiences. You’ll have a flair for creating compelling content and bringing it to life visually.  You’ll know how to plan and deliver campaigns, and you’ll be comfortable working with digital tools like CMS platforms, email marketing systems, SEO tools and social media schedulers.

You’ll be organised, proactive and happy managing multiple projects at once. You’ll enjoy collaborating with others, and you won’t be fazed by tight deadlines or shifting priorities.

If you’ve used tools like Canva, Adobe, Mailchimp or Google Analytics, great. If you’re familiar with CRM systems or event planning, even better. But most importantly, you’ll be someone who takes pride in their work, gets stuck in, and wants to make a difference.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

You’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

This role will be a Grade 7. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £41,000. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £51,970.

If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be - we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Monday 23rd June 2025.

Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. Screening is conducted on our behalf by a third party, and must be completed before your start date. Don’t worry - we’ll only start these checks once you’ve accepted an offer.

A few final things worth knowing…

Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.

As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.

Finally (finally!), candidates who haven’t submitted an application in the last 12 months will have their records removed from our recruitment database. You won’t need to do anything. Your data will be automatically deleted.

What you need to know about the Edinburgh Tech Scene

From traditional pubs and centuries-old universities to sleek shopping malls and glass-paneled office buildings, Edinburgh's architecture reflects its unique blend of history and modernity. But the fusion of past and future isn't just visible in its buildings; it's also shaping the city's economy. Named the United Kingdom's leading technology ecosystem outside of London, Edinburgh plays host to major global companies like Apple and Adobe, as well as a growing number of innovative startups in fields like cybersecurity, finance and healthcare.
