Our purpose is to positively impact people’s lives every day in every home around the world! We work very hard to provide our consumers with high-quality, exciting 5-star products that make life easier. We thrive on passion and innovation and are looking for great people, with great ideas, who want to build the next big thing and develop while they do.

About the role:

We are looking for a Senior Product Design Engineer who sits in the sweet spot between front-end design and technical engineering, who excels in hands-on design activities whilst also helping to develop junior staff and collaborate with internal/external project partners. We create the next generation of 5-star Personal Care products for global markets, from ‘day 0’ in the project through multiple iterative stages to achieve desirability, feasibility and viability, to a point where projects are ready for detailed design development.
You’ll be reporting to Nick, our Senior Manager of Advanced Development based in Battersea Power Station, London. We work with a hybrid model, with a minimum of 3 days/week in the office with the team. Whilst you will be based in Battersea, you will have opportunities to occasionally travel, for example to our HQ in Boston USA, events and trade shows.

Here are some of the exciting things you’ll get to do:

  • Drive early-stage product development. You’ll be helping to build up a product roadmap to grow our existing Personal Care categories and help set direction for new expansion spaces.
  • Identify consumer/product/technical problems and create amazing solutions for them; carrying out iterative research, ideation, prototyping and testing, with a focus on user experience and solving real issues/unmet needs that matter. Identify and tackle the biggest, fundamental risks first to ensure the limitations of the project are well understood as early as possible.
  • Able to communicate quickly and effectively across the team, using a combination of design & inter-personal skills to host reviews and pitches. You’ll be expected to communicate concepts clearly, expressing their reason to be and the benefits they provide.
  • Clearly demonstrate your concepts in the fastest and simplest way to gain excitement and buy-in… produce sketches, models, prototypes and test rigs to an appropriate resolution. We have wonderful Workshop and Lab spaces on site here in Battersea.
  • Gather cross-functional feedback from a variety of perspectives across our global sites to refine and crystalise the product definition. You’ll be expected to passionately represent ideas that you believe will delight our customers, while also being open and receptive to input from the wider team.
  • Use your experience and instinct to continually improve the way we work.

Here are some of the things you'll bring:

  • You are a well-rounded designer/engineer: creative, technical and practical.
    • Creative – you think the unthinkable. You can piece concepts together from a wide range of experiences and knowledge, combining elements most people wouldn’t think could be combined. You can communicate these ideas quickly and effectively through sketches and physical models.
    • Technical – your concepts and ideas are grounded in a broad understanding of engineering principles across mechanical, electrical and manufacturing. You can defend an amazing idea with sound theory or examples of how it could work using adjacent product examples or quickly built prototypes.
    • Practical – demonstrable hands-on skills to turn thoughts, ideas and sketches into quick prototypes, models and proof-of-concept rigs. You’re a doer. You have a bias for action and make things happen. You fail fast, learn and pivot with intention – key to success at SharkNinja.
  • You can anticipate potential barriers to your project and pro-actively work through roadblocks to keep projects moving at pace. When the unexpected happens, or things don’t work as you’d hoped, you’re resilient and maintain a positive attitude.
  • You are organized and logical and have an ability to identify what work needs to be done and in what order to clear a path through the unknowns. When complex decisions need to be made you can simplify and provide an informed recommendation.
  • Around 5+ years experience within a design or product development environment.
  • Experience within the consumer electronics space is desirable.
  • A track record of delivering products to market.
  • An understanding of plastics and metals prototyping and production techniques.
  • A degree-level design and/or engineering qualification.
  • Proficient in CAD – Solidworks or CREO.
