Define and lead the VCS product strategy to evolve version control and code-change workflows into a standalone ecosystem across JetBrains IDEs. Identify workflow gaps, set roadmaps, explore cross-IDE and AI-native review opportunities, align stakeholders, and work with engineering and QA to deliver scalable, platform-friendly solutions while representing the product externally.

You know version control is more than just a subsystem. It’s the backbone of how teams build software. You’re ready to shape the future of code-change workflows, from local commits to AI-assisted reviews. If you’re excited by the challenge of turning a core IDE feature into a standalone ecosystem, this is for you.

About JetBrains

We create intelligent software development tools for developers and teams. More than 15 million users, over 300,000 companies, and 88 of the Fortune Global Top 100 rely on our products to solve real, complex problems. Our mission is simple: make development teams more productive and AI adoptable at scale.

What you’ll do

Version control is a critical part of our IDEs, but we want to take it further. We’re turning VCS into a strategic product direction and, eventually, we aim to grow it into a dedicated ecosystem. This role exists to define what that future looks like right now.

As the Senior Product Manager, you’ll figure out where JetBrains should play in the VCS space, how to evolve our Git and code review experiences, and what new opportunities exist beyond our current tools. You’ll have the ownership to set a clear product vision that covers everything from complex local merges to remote, containerized, and AI-assisted workflows. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering and quality leads, as well as product marketing, developer advocacy, and the IntelliJ Platform teams. Together, you'll figure out how to handle the next era of software delivery, including tracking provenance and reviewing AI-generated changes across different environments.

Day to day, you will:

  • Set the long-term product strategy for VCS and code-change workflows across all JetBrains IDEs.
  • Identify gaps in current developer workflows and define new product directions in the VCS space.
  • Explore new opportunities, from cross-IDE VCS clients and host-neutral code reviews to AI-native review and authorship tracking.
  • Listen closely to what the community and the industry are saying to figure out exactly what we should be working on.
  • Align roadmap decisions across the product, engineering, design, marketing, developer advocacy, partnership, and customer-facing teams.
  • Work with engineering and quality leads to balance user value, technical constraints, and platform health.
  • Shape external positioning and represent our VCS direction in conversations with customers and the broader developer tools community.
What you’ll bring
  • A collaborative mindset that works well with engineering and quality teams on deeply technical challenges.
  • Strong product judgment, especially when navigating ambiguous areas to define a new ecosystem.
  • The ability to think beyond existing boundaries and spot opportunities for entirely new workflows.
  • Clear communication skills, whether you’re aligning internal stakeholders or talking to deeply technical users.
  • A data-informed approach, combining usage metrics, customer feedback, and market signals to make decisions.
  • An interest in how AI is changing software development, from generated commits to AI-assisted reviews.
  • A drive to improve solutions instead of copying what already exists.
What you’ll need
  • Previous success leading the product direction and strategy for technically complex developer tools, SCM, CI/CD, or code collaboration software.
  • The proven ability to translate intricate developer workflows into clear product roadmaps.
  • Experience bringing stakeholders together across product, engineering, marketing, and developer advocacy.
  • A deep understanding of version control mechanics, code-change workflows, and how developers actually ship code.
  • Based in the EU, ideally Munich, Prague, Amsterdam, Berlin, Belgrade, or remote within the EU, with the ability to travel to JetBrains offices as needed.
  • As a plus, familiarity with advanced version control scenarios, such as complex merges, monorepos, and enterprise/self-hosted setups.
What success looks like

Success means moving VCS from a platform subsystem to a clear, strategic ecosystem. You’ll have built a compelling product vision that engineering teams are aligned on and customers are excited about. You won’t just be copying what exists. You’ll be finding entirely new ways to solve code-change workflows, especially as AI becomes a bigger part of development. Ultimately, you’ll earn your team's trust by making sound decisions, keeping projects moving, and leaving the product better than you found it.
