Job Description

As Senior Risk Manager, you will lead the implementation and ongoing operation of Wise’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework tailored to the EU region, ensuring that new branch expansions, products  and new/ongoing Wise Platform partnerships align to the principles, governance, and standards defined within it. You will set and continuously adapt partner onboarding and ongoing monitoring standards so they remain resilient to emerging operational (tech and non-tech) and financial risks and to shifting regulatory expectations.

You will apply the Europe Risk Appetite, run and oversee risk assessments, KRI design/monitoring, and risk reporting, and provide clear, pragmatic risk advice to product and business teams to help them resolve issues and deliver new features safely. You’ll also play a key role in keeping EU risk governance effective by maintaining Risk Management (2LOD) policies for new branches, contributing 2LOD input to regulatory business plans, and presenting monitoring outcomes to EU and group committees—including executive management, regulators, and the Board—along with timely incident and issue escalations where required.

What you’ll be doing

  • Provide advice to product teams to guide them effectively resolving issues and developing new features.

  • Review, update and approval of policies owned by Risk Management (2LOD) for new branches, ensuring these continue to meet business, stakeholder and regulatory expectations. Helping to draft policies where gaps are identified, socialising as appropriate internally and seeing through to committee approval and implementation.

  • Support the drafting of regulatory business plans and associated 2LOD Risk Management input ensuring it aligns to the Enterprise Risk management framework.

  • Develop a deep understanding of products as well as group and regional controls, supporting the first line in the development of relevant control assurance metrics as well as ensuring adequate and proportionate outsourcing oversight frameworks and assurance are in place for regional entities.

  • Present monitoring outcomes and updates to relevant committees on both Wise EU and group level, including executive management, the regulator, and the Board, as appropriate.

  • Provide regular updates on incidents, issues, KRIs, product risks, and internal and external risk changes with the management team and provide timely escalations to the group where necessary.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in risk management for EU and/or UK financial services institutions.

  • Strong knowledge of European and/or Belgian risk management frameworks and/or industry best practice.

  • Subject matter expertise in EU regulation such as DORA, Outsourcing and third party risk management, safeguarding and data privacy.

  • Experience implementing enterprise risk management programs for financial services institutions.

  • Experience aligning to the other key risks across the risk taxonomy, including operational, financial and strategic risk as well as intersecting risks.
