ABOUT THE TEAM


The Maneuver Dominance team at Anduril develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. We are focused on making large groups of autonomous systems work effectively together, with a particular emphasis on larger, more capable unmanned aerial vehicles. Our team specializes in integrating advanced perception and autonomy algorithms into complex aerial platforms, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in autonomous flight and mission execution. We develop cutting-edge Computer Vision, Mapping and Autonomy algorithms to solve some of the hardest problems facing our customers, particularly in challenging and dynamic environments where robust awareness is critical.

ABOUT THE JOB

We are seeking an experienced State Estimation & Mapping Engineer with a strong background in robotics or aerial systems to join our growing team in Costa Mesa, CA. Anduril is developing software at the intersection of computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine learning. In this role you will be bringing together data from robots, cameras, LIDAR, and other sources into a single combined 3D operational map which enables both autonomous systems and end users to complete their missions with enhanced situational awareness. We develop cutting edge software for autonomous planning, navigation, and decision-making by having sensors and systems that work together to improve over time.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Design and develop robust and efficient C++ or Rust software for real-time sensor fusion, state estimation, mapping, and tracking.
  • Develop and implement advanced structure-from-motion and SLAM algorithms to create accurate 3D models from multiple sensor inputs.
  • Integrate with path planning teams to enable autonomous navigation in complex, unstructured environments
  • Design experiments, conduct data analysis and performance evaluation to validate and improve system capabilities.
  • Contribute to the full software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Work with vendors and government stakeholders to advance the state-of-the-art in perception and world modeling for autonomous aerial systems.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in estimation, localization and mapping technology.
  • Write clear and maintainable code with comprehensive documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS in Robotics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, or related field
  • Proficiency in production-grade Modern C++ software development
  • Experience implementing and integrating state-of-the-art mapping and localization techniques for autonomous systems
  • Strong understanding of 3D computer vision concepts, including multi-view geometry, camera models, photogrammetry, and 3D reconstruction techniques.
  • Strong communication skill and the ability to take large problems and break them down into actionable parts
  • Eligible to obtain and hold a U.S. Secret security clearance
  • Travel up to 25%
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • MS or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with Python or Rust software development
  • Experience processing sensor measurements from LIDAR, Electro-Optical sensors, Radar, or RF sensors
  • Experience processing sensor measurements from Inertial Measurement Units
  • Experience with sensor characterization and modeling
  • Familiarity with classical and contemporary approaches for state estimation and tracking (e.g. Kalman Filter, EKF, Particle Filter)
  • Familiarity with non-linear optimization frameworks like Ceres, GTSAM, etc
  • Experience with perception and mapping systems for aerial robotics or unmanned systems
  • Experience with multi-dimensional data structures for 3D data storage and collision-checking
  • Experience in Linux and modern software development tooling
  • Experience with CUDA and NVIDIA ecosystem
US Salary Range
$168,000$252,000 USD

 

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offer may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and/or training, critical skills, and/or business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full time offers; and are considered part of Anduril's total compensation package.
