More than 4 million registered developers have chosen Mapbox because of the platform’s flexibility, security and privacy compliance. Organizations use Mapbox applications, data, SDKs and APIs to create customized and immersive experiences that delight their customers.

What You'll Do

Solutions Architects are trusted technical and business advisors who partner with customers to design, prototype, and deliver solutions on the Mapbox platform. You work directly with customers and account teams to discover needs, design architectures, and deliver solutions that turn data, mobility, and mapping into effective digital experiences and measurable business outcomes. This role is ideal for someone who combines technical depth with commercial acumen and thrives at the intersection of strategy, architecture, and delivery.

Core responsibilities

  • Partner with Account Executives to position Mapbox’s technical value and shape opportunities.

  • Lead technical discovery to understand customer goals, requirements, and success criteria, and ensure solution designs meet business objectives.

  • Design and present scalable architectures using Mapbox SDKs, APIs, and platform services.

  • Build and deliver proof-of-concept solutions that demonstrate measurable customer value.

  • Apply expertise in GIS, spatial data, and location intelligence to solve customer problems.

  • Advocate for customer needs and provide structured feedback to influence product direction.

  • Stay current on mapping, mobility, and AI technologies and share best practices internally and with customers.

  • Support customers in logistics, telecom, weather, and more.

  • Deliver rapid technical enablement through workshops, demos, and PoC/PoV in a high-volume, fast-moving digital customer environment.

  • Drive customer success by accelerating time-to-value and supporting adoption and expansion in a dynamic, complex ecosystem.

What We Believe are Important Traits for This Role
  • 8+ years in solutions architecture, customer-facing engineering (pre-sales, post-sales), or consulting.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

  • Proven experience with GIS, location intelligence, and geospatial data (e.g., spatial databases, vector and raster data, geocoding, routing, map rendering).

  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex requirements into scalable, robust architectures aligned with customer objectives.

  • Strong business acumen and comfort working autonomously across distributed teams.

  • Experience responding to RFQs/RFIs with clear technical documentation and solution proposals.

  • Experience supporting high volumes of digital customers and context-switching efficiently across stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in web and mobile technologies (Required: JavaScript; Highly desirable: Swift, Kotlin, Python; Desirable: React Native, Flutter).

  • Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP; certification is a plus).

  • Experience with back-end APIs and front-end SDKs in geospatial and mobility domains.

  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and executive audiences, combined with a proven ability to influence executive, product, engineering, and developer stakeholders.

  • Willingness to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, workshops, and industry events.

What We Value

In addition to our core values, which are not unique to this position and are necessary for Mapbox leaders:

  • We value high-performing creative individuals who dig into problems and opportunities.

  • We believe in individuals being their whole selves at work. We commit to this through supportive health care, parental leave, flexibility for the things that come up in life, and innovating on how we think about supporting our people.

  • We emphasize an environment of teaching and learning to equip employees with the tools needed to be successful in their function and the company.

  • We strongly believe in the value of growing a diverse team and encourage people of all backgrounds, genders, ethnicities, abilities, and sexual orientations to apply.
