Role Context:

M&G plc Group Finance are a well controlled Finance function which support the external reporting for the listed Group
M&G plc is required to produce consolidated IFRS financial statements and Group Solvency II reporting. This role is responsible for contributing to the Group accounting policies and supporting the Head of Technical Reporting in the provision of advice to the business on IFRS accounting and S2 reporting treatment for initiatives such as new products and transactions. It is an exciting opportunity for an accountant who enjoys complex problem solving to be involved in establishing the basis for financial reporting for a diversified financial services Group. 

Key Accountabilities:

  • Support in technical analysis on the treatment under IFRS and Solvency II reporting for proposed initiatives including new products and transactions
  • To analyse the impact of new accounting standards on the Group results and provide technical accounting support to the implementation 
  • Production of IFRS and Solvency 2 reporting technical analyses as directed by the Head of Technical Reporting
  • Support the preparation of the Group IFRS financial statements, including ownership of a number of notes to the accounts, produced to auditable standards
  • Ensure sections of the Group Accounting Manual and associated Group accounting policies allocated to the role holder are maintained and communicated across M&G finance effectively
  • To liaise with the external auditors on IFRS and Solvency II reporting technical matters ensuring a timely resolution is reached
  • To maintain effective working relationships with other teams in M&G Finance ensuring that Group technical accounting needs are communicated, understood and met
  • Support with technical accounting analysis for new transactions and group reorganisations.

Required Knowledge and experience:

  • Knowledge of IFRS and Qualified accountant with at least 3 years PQE Solvency II reporting requirements 
  • Knowledge of financial reporting regulatory requirements and legislatory frameworks
  • Knowledge of M&G Prudential products, systems and distribution methods 
  • Experience of dealing with complex transactions and associated accounting
  • Experience of working in a technical accounting team 
  • Experience of financial reporting in a life and pensions business and asset management is also beneficial
  • Experience of insurance accounting, including requirements of UKGAAP and IFRS
