Job Summary:

Are you a collaborative Software Engineer in Test who enjoys coming up with solutions to technical problems? Would you like to work for the market leader in human insights technology? Join us at UserTesting as we work together to scale our team, systems, and business.

UserTesting is looking for a Software Engineer in Test with a passion for innovation and collaboration to join our offices in Edinburgh, Scotland. You will be building automation to help us scale and improve. We consider Software Engineers in Test an integral partner of our development team, and that everyone on the team owns quality.

The right candidate will collaborate effectively as part of a wider engineering team with a focus on SaaS projects. As an Engineer at UserTesting, you will be part of a passionate team that works effectively as a distributed group.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with technical and subject matter experts to deliver class-leading products.

  • Contribute to ongoing test automation work within the Quality Engineering team.

  • Write scalable, performant, maintainable code.

  • Measure and report test automation metrics, including code, function, and test case coverage.

  • Work effectively within a team environment, to regularly solicit and act on feedback, focus on root causes, and continually strive to improve.

  • Introduce and/or work on frameworks that can be used for automation.

  • Review code throughout the software development lifecycle.

  • Leverage your technical skills to bolster and expand our Quality team’s effectiveness.

Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, iterative development environment with short turnaround times.

  • Experience in automation frameworks and test strategy/plan development for web and mobile-based applications; ex: UI, API, Contract, and performance testing.

  • Good understanding of Service Oriented Architecture.

  • Experience with client-side performance optimization, security, and accessibility.

  • Engineering practices such as refactoring, TDD, CI/CD, pair programming, and code reviews.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate them when appropriate.

  • Demonstrate UserTesting’s values through work product and within day-to-day team interactions.

Education and Experience:
  • Well-versed in programming languages (Ruby/Rails, Javascript, Go, or Python).

  • Experience in designing, developing , executing and maintaining scalable web and mobile (Android and iOS ) test automation frameworks using tools such as Appium, Espresso, XCUITest, Playwright, Cypress.

  • Proven ability to test mobile apps that integrate with RESTful APIs and third-party services, ensuring end-to-end functionality and interoperability.

  • Experience in designing, writing, and executing automated test cases for web and mobile applications.

  • Good background in Software Quality concepts, processes, and testing types.

  • At least 5+ years of related experience required, ideally with 3+ years of technical automation testing/framework experience.

  • Experience working at all stages in the software development life cycle.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment with distributed remote teams.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
