Software Engineer

Bristol/Crawley/Glasgow (with Hybrid working)

Primary Purpose of the Role:

To drive the evolution and deployment of Data and AI capabilities within the businesses and to our customers in order to increase growth in orders and increased customer satisfaction. 

The Factory Software Engineer is a key member of a newly established software development team, working with stakeholders across Thales UK to deliver technology solutions that enable an integrated approach to data integration and curation. Aligned with the Thales UK Digital and Data strategy, the role focuses on developing, testing, deploying, and supporting reusable software capabilities that enhance the organisation’s data ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Deliver and support strategic solution designs, collaborating with teams throughout solution lifecycles.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate development and deployment.
  • Identify opportunities for solution reuse to optimize development costs.
  • Collaborate to build secure, scalable cloud applications using automated tools.
  • Recommend best practices to ensure robust, secure, and scalable products.
  • Work with product owners to address user needs and develop high-quality code, including code reviews and debugging.
  • Participate in agile threat modeling and enforce security and regulatory compliance for MOD and design assurance software.
  • Support data management through integration solutions, standards creation, and coordination with Data Architects.
  • Collaborate across squads to improve operational and strategic delivery.
  • Own technology software solution deliverables and provide insights on disruptive technology trends.

Experience:

  • In excess of 5 years’ experience in the defence Industry or Aviation/Medical in related software/DevOps/DevSecOps roles
  • CI/CD deployment
  • Software development and deployment in complex programmes and strong Data and Application understanding with underpinning Infrastructure solution development
  • Technical Documentation production to a high standard

This role will require SC Clearance. It would be advantageous if currently held, however, if not currently held, it is a requirement that the successful applicant will undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Please visit the UKSV website for further guidance.
To be eligible for full SC, you generally need to have resided in the UK for the last 5 years. In some circumstances, a minimum of 3 years’ residence in the UK over the last 5 years may be accepted, with additional overseas checks.
